I want to video call my son on a sky glass tv that i use sky Q on

I have got a sky glass tv but am using sky Q as I wanted to be able to record programmes. I would like to be able to use my TV to video call our son who lives far away. He can call us but we have to receive it on a phone 😪. Can anyone out there help us out with some advice on what camera etc is compatible with what we need. Thanks.

You won't be able to do that: only the Sky Live camera is compatible with a Glass television, and it requires a Glass subscription to be in place.

Sky Glass 55" (on ethernet) & two Stream Pucks (one ethernet / one WiFi)
BT Halo 3+ Ultrafast FTTP (500Mbs), BT Smart Hub 2

Hi and thanks. I know this but are there any other camera options that will work with a sky glass tv?

You know that but not the "only the Sky Live camera is compatible with a Glass television" bit? 😉

Don't be sarcastic please, I clearly mis-read the answer.

I shall have to rid myself of the glass tv then.

Essentially no: there's isn't any standalone camera which will plug in and work with the onboard apps, because that's the point of Sky Live with a Glass subscription.

You could use an external device which itself contains a camera/microphone and route the video/audio output of that device into the Glass set over HDMI: any current laptop would do that, but that's just using the television as a big second monitor, not 'calling from Glass'.

I think (might be wrong) that if the other end is Sky Glass then you can't call other services/devices on that? So both ends would need to use something compatible.

The video calling app on Glass is Zoom, so it can 'call' or 'join' any Zoom session on any other Zoom app host device.

It's 'Watch Together' which requires all participants to be on Glass & Live, and each participating household has to have the appropriate subscription for the Sky content being viewed.

Possibly, but less so than it appears: while big screen video conferencing has its place, that place is more a business boardroom than a domestic livingroom...
