I have recently moved to Sky Q.
Sky have sent a text asking me to return the old Sky hd box (over 20 years old). I did not realise I had to send the box back and disposed of it along with the satellite dish at the local recycling centre . Will I be charged for not retuning the equipment. Did not realise I had to return the item as engineer asked me to get rid of it.

No. Only Q hardware needs to be returned to Sky.
You probably could have sold it though.

@SLC87 I'm a bit confused you say you got rid of your satellite dish but you need that for Sky Q as Sky Q is a satellite based system or did you get a new dish when Q was installed.
It's Sky Stream that doesn't use satellite technology so have you got Sky Q or Sky Stream
I may be a Sky Superuser but I am still just a Sky customer
Sky Q 2 TB (Silver)Box, 2 Mini boxes since June 2016, all connected by wifi
Sky Broadband Hub/SR203, Sky Ultrafast broadband
Ultimate on Demand, Q Experience/UHD, Sky Sports, Sky Cinema
LG 49SJ 810 V UHD TV, Google Pixel 7 Pro mobile

@Laing1 I am guessing the engineer installed a new dish (like they did for me when I changed over) and left the old one they took down for @SLC87 to dispose of
