I have changed to fibrus broadband and now my multi room box will not connect to my main box.

I had sky broadband and changed to Fibrus recently. I have one multiroom box in an upstairs bedroom and the main box in the lounge downstairs. My multi room box will not connect since I stopped using the Sky broadband.

Do I need to get a booster box set between my main box and the multiroom box?

Thanks,

Mark

Hi @Chummy777

First try rebooting the main Q box and then when this is completely back up and running reboot the mini.
To reboot press Standby on your Sky Q remote (if the box responds to the remote), and then switch off and unplug at the mains.
Wait at least 30 secs and then Plug back in and switch your Sky Q box back on at the mains.
Wait for the on screen instructions to disappear and the front led to turn Amber. Then wait for 30 secs before you press Home on your Sky Q remote or if this is not working press the standby button on the front of the Q box (Amber led)

note: some features may take up to 5 minutes to return.

Reboot the mini as above.
If the mini still does not connect try a Network Reset on the mini.
Network Reset found in mini Home - Settings - Setup - Network.
Highlight Status and then select Reset on the right hand side. Follow instructions to WPS with main Q box.
You will be asked to press the WPS button on the main Q box (not the mini as the Network reset will start the mini WPS automatically).

If you are on Sky Broadband and the Router is nearer to the mini than the main box then you can try pressing WPS on the router instead of the main Q box. If you do this make sure you press the Sky router WPS button and not the router reset button.

Failing all of the above you may need a Sky Q WiFi Booster to position midway between your main Q box and the mini and you will need to contact Sky directly.

Hi @oldfella,

Thanks for replying so quickly. I have tried all that you have suggested with still no connection between both my boxes. I have tried to search the sky site to buy or order a booster but can't locate anything at present?

Thanks again,

Mark

Hi @Chummy777

Exactly what happens when you try the WPS on the main Q box?

If you want a Sky Q booster best to contact Sky directly.

Re: I have changed to fibrus broadband and now my multi room box will not connect to my main box.

@oldfella The main box connection is fine and when I use the WPS it makes no difference to the mini box upstairs. The upstairs box still doesn't connect to the main box. I still have my sky broadband and when I'm connected to the Sky rather than the Fibrus it will connect using the router box as the booster I think? I would like to cancel my sky broadband but will lose my usage of the mini box upstairs.

Yeah @Chummy777

When on Sky broadband the router is part of the Q mesh and so can be used for WPS to connect minis.

On 3rd party broadband the mini will only connect to the main Q, another mini or a Q booster.

Best to contact Sky as they should supply Q boosters to aid connectivity.

He was asking anout the WPS on the Q as you have to press that when the mini says "press the wps button on your closest sky equipment". Is that what you were doing? It's been so long since I gave up on wifi with Q I can't remember if that comes after you tell it about your router SSID or if it does that for itself after it gets the Q connection working and learns about the broadband.

Worth considering a wired connection, even if via powerlines. That's what I did, more or less.

Re: I have changed to fibrus broadband and now my multi room box will not connect to my main box.

I had the same problem my main box would connect to Fibrus and the multitude wanted to connect via the main box but when obtaining an IP address it would not work.

There are 2 options for a solution

1. If your multi-tool box can be cables via Ethernet it will resolve the issue.

2. Keep the sky router and buy a  switch and Ethernet the sky box to give it internet and configure it as a wireless access point and run the sky boxes through the sky router
