I have a new mini box today. Its all set up but the volume controls don't work with the new remote.

you need to pair the remote to the box & TV

Press & hold 1 & 3 on the remote to start  & follow the instructions (I advise people to choose the find it for me option when prompted for the TV model) - make sure your remote has line of sight of the box until paired.

If you get problems pairing then best to reset the remote (you could do this anyway) by pressing |& holding 7 &9 together until the red led above the SKY logo pflasehes 4 times & then retry the 1&3 to pair

Can you explain in a little more detail?

Please confirm the mini box came from Sky?  How many mini's do you have currently?  Do you have a multiscreen sub?  What hardware version of the main Q box do you have?  https://www.sky.com/help/articles/sky-software-updates
