How to watch sky on new LG TV

What I don't understand is my previous Sony TV was connected exactly the same way, I installed the Sky app on the Sony interface and Sky News worked perfectly from there with no aerial connection to the TV?

The app on the Sony was probably the Android based one. Same sky news app you can get for a phone, more or less. Aerial or hdmi connections aren't relevant for that, it's just streaming using the internet. I guess LG don't have one (my Panasonic certainly doesn't) as they don't run on Android so Sky would have to write a specific app for the WebOs Operating System that LG use.

Hi @philby123 You cannot get Sky Go on LG Smart TV as it is unavailable on the LG Content Store.

I think Sky Go can be streamed online via the web browser on your LG TV?

Alternatively if you have a games consol, Playstation, Xbox you can use the SKY Go  app from those devices connected to your TV.

It's not Sky Go it's the Sky News app.

Thanks for that reply, yes Sony was Android, the LG Sky News app has all the features the android one has for streaming of different news items which work fine but the Live TV function doesn't work?

Hi @philby123 do you have a Sky Q box or just the BT box is your LG tv capable of Freeview Play 

Live TV function won't work unless your tv is connected to an aerial indoor/outdoor or your tv is connected to your home network 

Don't you get free to air channels with the BT box.

I just have a BT Box, what I struggle to understand is my TV has changed from Sony to LG, on the Sony the Sky News app worked fine, the aerial was connected to the BT Box then as it is today, the Sky News LIVE TV in exactly same configuration does not work for Live TV whereas on the Sony TV it did?

"Live TV" on the LG  is to access freeview via an aerial (or anything else coming in on analog cable like the BT box connection  mentioned.) and LG's own streamed "LG Channels.

It has literally nothing to do with anything in any sky app.

The Sony and LG Sky News apps must just be different if the LG one doesn't show live broadcast and the Sony one did.

Thanks, so just to be clear, on the LG TV with no direct aerial connection to the TV and no sky box, the LG Sky News app will not deliver Live News unlike the same app on the Sony with exactly the same configuration of aerial connected to the BT Box?

The app on the Sony was not using the aerial connection or the BT box.

BUT

If you were getting live Sky News via the BT box separately from the Sony app, that should work the same way on the LG as long as it has an analog tuner

I have exactly the same problem.  I have the Sky News app installed on my LG which streams via the internet.  It was working fine until am guessing an update to the LG software which is perhaps not compatible with the Sky News app.  It only affects the Sky News Live stream.  All other streams on the Sky News app seem to work.  Is so frustrating.

Sky, your Sky News app for streaming "Watch Sky News Live" does not work on LG TVs for approx the last 6 months.  The following error message is always shown "There was a problem with this video [timeout]"

I have 0 bandwidth issues and stream all content on the other News apps with no problem.  Please can you fix this...

You can stream Sky News live on YouTube until they fix it in the meantime.

Thanks for the suggestion, I tend to avoid using YouTube and the Web on the TV as is a bit of a pain using the TV remote for a keyboard.  Funnily enough have just come back from a short holiday and it now miraculously works!

Sky news app works perfectly on my LG TV.  Have you got a good wi fi signal? Have you tried deleting and re installing the app? Is your tv on latest software?
