I currently have sky hd connected via coax/magic eyes to other rooms in the house. If I go for sky q how can I replicate this? Àssume there is nothing on the market to 'create' an rf output? Seems a very strange 'upgrade' if you lose this functionality! I also have a multi room box so how would this work?

Hi @thebaldone,
There is ways to make magic eye work but it's a ball ache and requires adapters etc,
It's easier just to have multi screen mini boxes as it's only 1x £15 per month regardless if you have 1 or 4 mini boxes, there's just a £50 fee per Mini box, 1st ones usually free.
They don't require connection to the dish as they work by connecting to the main Sky q box.

You can have a maximum of 4 mini boxes loaned to you by Sky. You can watch Sky content on two minis and the main box at the same time. You may be able to use a third mini box if the first one in use is being used for a streaming app ie: Netflix or DIsney+.
Be aware the original 1TB (non-UHD) Sky Q box only allows one mini to be in use. All 2TBs and the UHD/HDR 1TB permit two mini boxes. Each mini box which is loaned to you may be subject to a one off upfront charge but you only need one Sky Q monthly Multiscreen subscription.

RF is a rather dated method of distributing video - although many are satisfied with the poor quality.
As noted, Sky has a digital method of distributing live and recorded media for the main box using mini boxes (subject to subscription).

hi @thebaldone
I believe there are HDMI to RF adapters but no idea how they work - you may also need an HDMI splitter - I beleive these can be a bit hit & mss with SKY Q that is rather fussy in ensuring HDCP complaince etc.
Regarding the multiroom - the mini boxes provide this but in a different way - see these notes
I have made for people considering switching from SKY +/HD to SKY Q

The 'upgrade' is presumably actual HD without requiring wires: that's a reasonable step up in technology.

Has to be HDCP compliant

Just had this same conversation with a Sky service person when calling to look at reducing cost.
I don't want to watch different channels in different rooms. there is only me. I just want to be able to go to bed and continue watching what I had on downstairs!
I could do it with a TV Eye. Why can't we just get a mini box without the multi room subscription?
So unhelpful I'm now thinking of cancelling the entire thing and I have been a customer for nearly 30 years.

Sky Q boxes don't have RF outputs so a Magic eye couldn't work, Sky+HD is an ancient unsupported system, if you want to watch TV in another room with Sky Q you need a Q mini box and multiroom sub.

There are potential workarounds using an HDMI splitter and either long HDMI cable (for HD, but not UHD) or other cabling systems. The current Q remote is Bluetooth and so doesn't necessarily need line of sight.

That is what I understand from talking to Sky. Its the insistence on a £15 a month multi-room subscription that I find appalling and an excuse to rip me off for money.

You may be able to reduce the cost by agreeing a 2 year contract/discount. But it's always been the case with Q that you need a sub.
