How to get 4k UHD on to tv's

Hello I recently had Sky Q installed with 1x 2TB main sky q box with UHD package. and a mini sky box. 

I understand that the mini sky box does not support 4K UHD, which does not bother me currently, as the main box is conneted to a 4k TV and the mini is connected to a 1080p TV, however I would like to upgrade the 1080p TV to 4K eventually, so how would I get 4k on 2 tv's but only having 1 main Sky Q box, can I have 2 main Sky Q boxes? I don't really want to get sky stream, which is reliant on internet use only, which means if no internet then no tv.

With Q there's no way to get 4k on 2 TV's.  You can only have 1 main box.

(other than some expensive HDMI splitters/extenders)

@Gurjee43  You cannot have 2 main boxes, none of the mini's will give you 4k as you're already aware.

Peraps an option might be stream but you would need to do due research to see if it would suit the family.

My 4k tv is in my bedroom and 1080 in in living room, I have my sky boxes setup accordingly, but want to upgrade my living room tv to 4k also, Shame sky didn't think about this with the mini boxes, or allowing customers to have 2 main sky q boxes. Can't you just buy a sky Q main box and just use the ethernet/wireless like you do with Sky mini, and link the 2 sky mainboxes together, similer as current setup, and only have 1 box connected to satellite.

Unfortunately not. A main Q box without a satellite connection is useless. You also cannot 'buy' them - all Q equipment is loaned from Sky and must be returned at the end of your contract. If you were to buy one from eBay or some other such place then you would be handling stolen goods which would not function anyway.

So currently the only real solution is Sky stream on 1 TV and Sky Q main box on the other and do away with the mini box. I don't like sky stream as it has less features than Sky Q, unless sky is able to do some sort of update to their Sky Q package allowing customers to have 4K on more than 1 TV

You can't have Stream and Q - it's one system or the other I'm afraid. 

It's highly unlikely that Q will get an upgraded 4K minibox. The Q technology was developed before Sky was bought by Comcast. The Stream tech is vey much Comcast's baby so that's what they're pushing now.

@SlenderRobert I didn't know sky had been brought out by comcast. So basically what your saying is in order to get sky TV in 4K on multiple Tv's in 1 household it's Stream puck per tv.

Correct. You also need what they call the 'Whole Home' pack which allows you to use the one channel subscription package across multiple pucks in the one household. The Stream equivalent of Sky Q multiscreen basically.

I happily get Sky UHD on 2 LGs (1 C1 and 1 C2)., both connected to 1 main Sky box. To do it is an expensive solutions which I had anyway.

You simply need an AV Amp capable of outing 2 4K signals via HDMI and then a long good quality HDMI cable to the second room.

I have the Yamaha A4A amp.

And of course you can only watch the same thing in both rooms and have a cable to hide. I'd go for Stream at that point I think, as reluctant as I am 😆

Yeah that's true.  I'm actually covered though as I have a sky mini too. 

I'm fortunate as the amp is on am external wall and the tv in the other room is on the same external wall, so it was relatively easy to make it neat and tidy.  The HDMI is in conduit on the outside wall.  Had the set up for god knows how many years.  In all honesty, I rarely use the sky 4k feed.

No perfect solution, just dont think i'm ready from IPTV for the main tv and i'd also miss the record function.

In theory a UHD HDMI splitter can do the same at rather lower cost than a £1000+ AV receiver: the key is to find hardware which can actually support 4K @ 60Hz and HDCP 2.2

Cable length is still a significant factor, but active HDMI is a lot cheaper than it used to be.
