How can I improve SKYQ boxes connecting to each other. I use ZZOOMM ISP.

I was having all sorts of issues with wi-if/internet on SKY broadband as they do not provide fibre in my area. I had to switch devices off to try and get some stability and performance. Connection between SKYQ box and mini boxes was also unstable. I had to move to a new ISP to get full fibre which is great, but I still have the internal issue where SKYQ boxe to mini box connections as unstable. Is there a way I can improve the SKYQ connections between boxes ?.

many thanks in advance

Hi @LuluGold14

First try rebooting the main Q box and then when this is completely back up and running reboot the minis.
To reboot press Standby on your Sky Q remote (if the box responds to the remote), and then switch off and unplug at the mains.
Wait at least 30 secs and then Plug back in and switch your Sky Q box back on at the mains.
Wait for the on screen instructions to disappear and the front led to turn Amber. Then wait for 30 secs before you press Home on your Sky Q remote or if this is not working press the standby button on the front of the Q box (Amber led)

note: some features may take up to 5 minutes to return.

Reboot the minis as above.
If the mini still does not connect try a Network Reset on the minis. Start with the one nearest to the main Q box
Network Reset found in mini Home - Settings - Setup - Network.
Highlight Status and then select Reset on the right hand side. Follow instructions to WPS with main Q box.
You will be asked to press the WPS button on the main Q box (not the mini as the Network reset will start the mini WPS automatically).

. If you get the first mini connected then for other minis use WPS on the nearest Q device (main Q box or previously connected mini).

Failing all of the above you may need a Sky Q WiFi Booster to position midway between your main Q box and the minis and you will need to contact Sky directly.

Re: How can I improve SKYQ boxes connecting to each other. I use ZZOOMM ISP.

Hi @oldfella

many thanks. Been there and done that so many times, but it's one box that's has the issue and I think it's due to the fact that the SKY router has gone which reduced the gap. I had thought of a SKYQ booster but it suggests they only work if SKY is the ISP. Happy to give a SKYQ booster a go if they will work with other ISPs. Also if that's the case which one should I look at ?.

Thanks in advance

Hi @LuluGold14

You need a Sky Q WiFi booster from Sky.  They supply these free of charge to aid Q connectivity.  Although they will not connect to the non Sky router you can use them midway between the main Q box and the minis.   They are then connected by WPS the main Q box and then the minis use these for connection by WPS.

Hi @oldfella

Update - I went through the process with SKY and they no longer just send out the SKYQ WiFi boosters. They arrange for an engineer to come out and if they agree and it will work they will provide a SKYQ booster. Earliest date 21st June, but they may find me an earlier date. Thought it would have been cheaper just to send a booster. But we will see.

I had heard something that boosters weren't so easy to get but wow 6 week? wait seems excessive.

If it's something you are familiar with and anxious to try ahead of that maybe have a look into powerline adaptors. Just be aware reliability depends on factors like how the house is wired. ( So if purchasing use somewhere with a good return option)

Re: How can I improve SKYQ boxes connecting to each other. I use ZZOOMM ISP.

Thanks. They came up with an earlier date. Booster in and then they switched the mesh network on. Tried to live with it for a day, but finally disabled the mesh network. Everything very slow regarding SKY, just seemed flakey. Used WPSconnection to booster for mini box with most issues. Not sure it's working all that well as last night 27th May we have all sorts of issues with recordings failing due to tech issues and another mini box which has been stable since day one now cannot connect. May end up becoming a Virgin.
