Hi, I have a Toshiba 55UL2163DBC tv indoor scenes dark

Hi, I see many people have commented on this problem of scenes being so dark that you can hardly see them.

I've tried everything and still cannot sort it out.

I thought the Toshiba was a pretty good quality, so dont think the problem is the tv, it's only with Sky Q  and its apps, ie Netflix, ITV X, terrestrial channels are fine.

Any ideas, it's sending me mad, I've gone through settings  resolution set to it's lowest now, pictures viewed in SD only, contrast settings, nothing seems to make any difference, any ideas please?

Toshiba are very much known as a budget TV manufacturer so not perhaps as good as they maybe once were. Most, if not all, of their TV's are in fact manufactured by a company called Vestel who make low-end models for various brands using similar technology but with different branding.

It may be that you have a problematic HDMI port if you can't get anything from Sky Q to look good.

That maybe Robert, but I see it's not only the Toshiba TVs that have this problem, on Freeview no problem at all, so it must be Skys end, as I say it's the indoor darker scenes and night scenes, they are so dark.

Maybe a Sky tech can advise me?

This is primarily a customer helps customer forum.

That TV is a positively reviewed budget model but has a low output of only 350nits.  Also use the built in apps wherever you can as they are likely to be better tuned to the host model.

Is your Q box a HDR version?

You might have more success in a Tosh forum about best settings.

I am just another Sky customer and my views are my own

Yes, but if the Freeview tuner built in to the TV gives a good picture then it could still be the HDMI port you have the Sky Q box connected to that has a problem.

I've just had a quick look at the manual for your particular model and one thing to check is whether you have HDMI Full Range turned on. It should be in the Picture Settings menu.

Also make sure that ALLM (Auto Low Latency Mode) is turned off as this has no use with Sky Q.

There are no settings you can change on the Sky Q box itself other than the resolution so you'll need to try changing things on your TV settings to see if things improve.

It has 4 HDMI ports, I have tried them all, no difference, Incidently, the HDMI lead im using is the one supplied with the SKY Q 2 gb box. It shouldn't be that should it?

The Q box that I have is a 32B065, which I believe is not a HDR, but what difference has tgat to do with the dark indoor scenes etc?

HDR, on a poorly tuned panel, can result in adverse colour reproduction.  It's a valid query.

Your box is not HDR compatible:

To check if it is head to Settings > System Info > Hardware version and check the model number.

If it is one of the following, it is HDR compatible:

  • 32B1xx - Sky Q 2TB
  • 32B203 or 32B204 - Sky Q 1TB
  • 32B205 or 32B206 - Sky Q 1TB/2TB

However, if the model number starts with the following, it does not support HDR:

  • 32B0xx - Sky Q 2TB
  • 32C0xx - Sky Q 1TB
  • 32C1xx - Sky Q 1TB

Good luck sorting this, have you tried a different 4K HDMI cable?  You've ruled out the TV ports.

I havnt ruled out the HDMI cable, but I really dont think its that either, why, I'm watching CNN and Europe's at the moment, no problems at all, so I think its down to SKY?
