I have just upgraded from Sky+ to Sky Q and added on the Sky sports pack. They told me that I also need to have the HD add on pack if I want to record any channels. If I do not have the HD add on, does this mean that I will not be able to record anything at all ?
I see the Sky sports channels come as HD as standard, so will I be able to view and record these without the HD add on pack ? I have seen where you can change the settings to download in SD but if the channel is only a HD channel, does that it will will not record or download ?
Also, I have had Sky signature with Netflix but I already have Netflix premium which I pay Netflix directly for and also pay the £5 for an extra member outside of the household. I have seen that Sky do not offer this option. Does this mean that I will need to continue my Netflix services directly with Netflix ? And if so, can I remove that part of the package and get it cheaper or is it included ? Will the Netflix part be automatically activated and charging me for something that do not need if I keep my current Netflix subscription ?
It is all a bit confusing.

You have been incorrectly advised.
you do not need the HD add on to be able to record - you can record any channels you can watch
You can access some Free channels in HD (e.g. BBC, ITV, Ch4 & CH5) - however there is a slight nuance that you cannot download HD from catch up/On Demand for CH4 & C5 I believe
BTW Some channels you can get on Freeview in SD are available in HD but need the HD add on to watch in HD e.g. W
The Sports channels in the UK do indeed come with HD as standard (in your billls you will however see SKY Sports pack & SKY Sports HD as separate items with the total cost being what you are paying) - it is not standard in Ireland
If you already have Netflix separate and need the extra member discount you should not migrate your account & pay Netflix via SKY - as you note the extra member is not available if you pay via SKY
Check that you ae not being billed for Netflix via SKY - if you are the chances are your existing Netflix account will get migrated / suspended when you try to access Netflix on SKY Q

This is because the default is to download in HD but you can change this to SD in settings

Yes

You may be able to move from 'Ultimate TV' to 'Signature'

If you sign into the Netflix app on a Q box then Netflix billing will transfer to Sky and you will lose the 'extra member' feature.
