Re: Freesat not finding signal

I had exactly the same issue, today, with my New Freesat 4K 500Gb Recording box.  Also moving from SkyQ to FreeSat.

A lot of advice says, that in order to install the required updates, leave the box powered on for 30 mins then put it in standby for 10 seconds.

I found that the above did not work for me.

I had to leave the box in standby for approximatley 10 minutes - after which the standby light (purple) changed to blue, then went off, then went to purple again, then blue,  then off and then finally back to purple. 🙂

I assume this was the updates installing.

I then pressed the power button (to turn the box back on) and the search found the satellite signal first time.

So, in my case I kept getting No Signal during the initial setup until I put the box into standby mode and left it for 10 minutes or so.  During this time the box installed its updates and the No Signal issue was fixed.

Unclear what you are saying, but in general the satellite tuner built-in to a television set is unlikely to work through a Q LNB.  Freesat 4K boxes will do so, but they contain a different reception technology.

Presumably those particular cables are fed from a pair of outputs on the LNB which aren't compatible, so they work for Q but not an older Freesat tuner.  That's possible from one of the Sky 'hybrid' LNB models.

If your LNB has been changed for SKY Q then the cables used for SKY Q will not work with your old SKY HD box or a built in Freesat tuner (or older Freesat boxes)

@nbluston   From what you describe it looks as if you have a Sky Hybrid LNB fitted to your satellite dish.

This type of LNB provides a mix of either 2 or 4 Legacy Universal LNB outputs which will be suitable for feeding a typical television set that has a Legacy Freesat tuner built in, and two Wideband LNB outputs which are required to feed your Sky Q receiver.

The Wideband LNB outputs will only support a Sky Q receiver or a 4K Freesat tuner, these Wideband LNB outputs will not support a Legacy Freesat tuner.

If you want to use the Wideband LNB outputs for Freesat reception you will need to purchase a 4K Freesat receiver.

Yet AGAIN, whenever I post any technical information at the weekend it only lasts for a few minutes before being removed for checking by Sky technical staff around mid morning next Monday.

At least one regular member of this forum read it and was kind enough to like it before it was removed for moderation checking.

I look forward to my post passing moderation of its technical details and being restored on Monday!

Re: Freesat not finding signal

Hi @Godfrey , thank you for this write up, I was looking for this exact information. I have a  4 ouptut Hybrid LNB that was fitted about 2ish years ago, from my research it is EL027. Currently I have 2 cables connected to the (front) Wideband outputs for Sky Q. However, I am considering changing to FreeSat and have an in-built tuner in my LG TV. Is it a case of simply moving the cables on the LNB to the back legacy ports to get this up and running? I have tried the autotune already with one of the cables plugged in and it finds channels but has no signal (a common problem I have found).

Again thanks for this info and for helping us out!

hi @thefoxes

When you tried this is this with the cable attched to the legacy Port or still on the wideband ?

Any TV built in Sat Tuner needs to be connected to a legacy 'Universal' Port

Re: Freesat not finding signal

Hi @nigea99

Yes, to answer your question, nothing has been changed on the dish itself. It currently looks like this.

So to get it working on my TV (OLED48A26LA) I'd need to move the cables on the lnb to the back ports. Does it make a difference that my TV only has one Satellite in port?

hi @thefoxes

The TV Satellite Tuner (as I mentioned) will only work with the legacy 'Universal' port

Universal Ports do only need one cable as they use a 22KHZ tone & voltage change to switch between High/low bands & Polarisation (unlike the wideband ports which need a separate cable for each polarisation and provide both high & low bands as a single 'wideband')
