The Sky Showcase channel 'free movie' today is LOTR: Fellowship of the Ring (2001) which, to be honest, has been broadcast once or twice before in the near quarter century since it was released.
Some sales reps appear to implying that the offer is free access to recent content from a Sky Cinema channel, which is not the case.

I got told the same thing! Is it a publicity stunt?

No, as mentioned in the previous replies a movie is shown on Sky Showcase each weekend. It is usually on Saturday night but due to F1 coverage this week's film (Lord of The Rings: The Two Towers) is on Sunday at 15:10.

@xenon81 it was said on the phone a blockbuster movie not a decades old movie that is probably on netflix anyway? I will challenge this when they call me back on Tuesday

At something like a three billion dollar box office the LOTR franchise is undoubtedly a blockbuster, just a rather old one now...
Some salespeople are undoubtedly overdoing the prominence of the offer though.

I had the same phone call and I can't remember the channel either. I'm sure they said the film would start at 7pm and that it is Wonder Woman this Saturday

It's channel 106 (Sky Showcase) but Wonder Woman was last week's film.

I was once told by a caller from Sky that there was a voice command to view this weekly free VIP
film. I can't remember it. Can anyone remind me please?

My understanding is this was a miscommunication amongst the call centre folk: the 'weekly free VIP film' is nothing of the kind, but a garbled reference to the movie Sky has been putting out on Showcase in the Saturday broadcast EPG which would otherwise require a subscription add-on to view on a named Sky Cinema channel.
As noted above, they aren't exactly recent films either: this Saturday (21:30 - 23:30 ) is 'The Bourne Supremacy' from 2004.

A great film nevertheless. I only watched the series for the first time last year after visiting the live show at Universal Studios....
