Re: Extremely slow SkyQ downloads - Not with Sky Broadband
Because Wi-Fi is a more convenient capability that I am unable to use. Wireless is certainly a later (more modern) technology than ethernet, hence the term retrograde.
I didn't realise preferring wireless rather than wired technology was going to cause anyone to wet their pants.

Re: Extremely slow SkyQ downloads - Not with Sky Broadband
I have had the same issue. Sky q box and BT broadband. Everything works fine, Netflix, Prime, Disney etc, as well as PS5, phones with 150mbps download speed. But on demand and movie downloads on sky was taking hours.
sky and bt are unable to fix it other than telling me it works fine if I connect with a Ethernet cable which is useless for me.
The only fix I have found so far is to change the BT hub wireless mode from the default mode 1 - which is the high performance mode to mode 2 - compatibility mode.
BT documentation says mode 2 should be used when you are having issues with wireless devices. I am assuming that the Sky Q box uses older wireless technology and the performance version of the Bt hubs firmware doesn't mix well.
although this has fixed the issue I will caveat with, the first time I changed the wireless mode the skybox performed better instantly. It then went back to being poor a few weeks later and I had to change the mode back to 1 and then back to 2 again to get the sky box to perform again.
hope this helps

Re: Extremely slow SkyQ downloads - Not with Sky Broadband
Got an engineer coming Monday. Tried software hard resets etc. Downloads terribly slow. Picture on Apple TV last night was less than SD. Really bad.
I've got a uhf 2tb box so I'm not hopeful. Hardwireing won't work for my house set up. BT router under the stairs with just one plug outlet.

Re: Extremely slow SkyQ downloads - Not with Sky Broadband
If you need a wired connection you could get passthrough power line adaptors.
they have a plug socket on the adapter so you can still plug them in which would be perfect for your scenario of only one plug.
the turn the ring main into a Ethernet cable and you plug the receiver next to where you need it and hardwire the device.
if they don't fix your issue I hope this helps

Re: Extremely slow SkyQ downloads - Not with Sky Broadband
I tried many of the things listed velow with no success. In the end I intallled a BT wifi extender disc near my main SkyQ box and connet them with an ethernet cable - mega download speeds and no pausing watching TV on the apps. Admitedly not a complete wireless solution but I coudn't find any other way to fix it.

Re: Extremely slow SkyQ downloads - Not with Sky Broadband
Same issue here. BT broadband, Sky Q. Downloading a movie, even non-UHD, routinely takes hours. I cannot even start watching the movie as it downloads, because it's so slow it doesn't even give me the 'play' prompt to watch whilst downloading continues in the background. I have perfectly good download speeds, and a very recent BT Hub, on my broadband, and everything else (Amazon Prime, Netflix etc) streams instantly and perfectly. Yes, I've tried all the reboots in the world, no joy at all.
I can only surmise Sky is throttling BT broadband users in order to try to cross sell to Sky broadband.
Feeling totally ripped off. And I feel like I shouldn't have to waste my time calling to report a fault, only to inevitably have to spend hours going through triage of my set up when it's clearly a deliberate issue at Sky's end.
I've been a customer since the 1990s, but I'm sure that will carry no weight either.
I'd cancel were it not for a partner who insists on keeping the service in order to maintain access to Sky Atlantic. And there you have it. Sky are simply too big to have to care. They do as they please, and never mind the customer.
This seems to be a problem reported regularly on here for years if my conclusions above were incorrect, it would have been fixed. Has it? No. Therefore it must be intentional.

Re: Extremely slow SkyQ downloads - Not with Sky Broadband
Well I'm not on Sky BB and get a UHD movie in less than 10 minutes, so that's that conspiracy theory on the bonfire.
if you had a theory that said Sky Q's wifi is garbage, that I could get behind.

Re: Extremely slow SkyQ downloads - Not with Sky Broadband
Hi @Bannock Try rebooting your router remove the power cable for 30sec then reconnect, then do the same with your SkyQ box?
I have BT ffp and find the best connection is via Ethernet cable, although WiFi is usually ok.
I used to have superpowers… But a therapist took them away.

Ethernet has continued to develop in parallel with wifi and is capable of far higher speeds (40Gb maximum currently) and will always be more reliable and less subject to interference. Certainly less convenient though.

Have you got one of those new EE routers with wifi6? I read a thread on here that said they can run a "compatibility mode" 2.4GHz network over which Q works better.

No, it's a BT Smart Hub 2.

Re: Extremely slow SkyQ downloads - Not with Sky Broadband
Thanks for replying, but I have done this so many times I shall shortly have calluses to show for it.
This is a Sky end problem.

Re: Extremely slow SkyQ downloads - Not with Sky Broadband
I fixed it. With a sky q wireless booster (about £80)
your q will hook up to sky rather than BT broadband but it's tricking the sky Q main box.

Re: Extremely slow SkyQ downloads - Not with Sky Broadband
Thanks, I will look into that, but wow. Having to spend £80 on a 3rd party device to make Sky's hardware work properly. Blimey.

@Bannock there are many people on BT broadband using the Smart Hub 2 that have no problems so its not Sky throttling it back. From memory have you switched of the smart function on the router and can you split the frequencies as the Q box will only connect to you smat hub on the 2.4 Ghz frequency
I may be a Sky Superuser but I am still just a Sky customer
Sky Q 2 TB (Silver)Box, 2 Mini boxes since June 2016, all connected by wifi
Sky Broadband Hub/SR203, Sky Ultrafast broadband
Ultimate on Demand, Q Experience/UHD, Sky Sports, Sky Cinema
LG 49SJ 810 V UHD TV, Google Pixel 7 Pro mobile
