Re: Extremely slow SkyQ downloads - Not with Sky Broadband

It must have been something they have done if so many people are having issues and only recently.

Branching out is in reference to the invite to chat. Sporadic messages here and there isn't working and they close when most people are around to go through such things unfortunately.

Ok still don't know what it means. Never heard the term in this context but if the chat thing isn't working for you, you'll probably have to phone.

I had the problem 2-3 years ago (had had loads of disconnects before but not slowdown) and loads of others have over time. It's not something they've changed. It's a fundamental flaw in the way Q's wifi works.

Re: Extremely slow SkyQ downloads - Not with Sky Broadband

Have the same issue, I planned to connect my sky Q box via Ethernet cable and did so as I got a new broadband provider guaranteed 900mbps up and download speed. Checked my connection at the sky Q box and was getting more than that but the download speed from sky was more like dial up back in the day.
Lools like I will be calling Sly in the morning as it's painful having to wait an hour for a download that should take seconds.

Downloads may be throttled at source, regardless on how fast your connection is.

I am just another Sky customer and my views are my own even if you don't like the answers

Re: Extremely slow SkyQ downloads - Not with Sky Broadband

I did read that the sky Q box is limited to 100mbps but still it was much slower than that I feel and it has a lot of remote network problems as well.

Not that much though. I probably get a 2 hour uhd movie in 10 minutes from Sky. Ready to play in a few seconds.

As I'm having this problem with slow downloads if you do ring sky let them know other people have also reported this issue on sky community so they know it's not just you with this issue if possible update us on here with what they say thanks

Re: Extremely slow SkyQ downloads - Not with Sky Broadband

I've been having exactly the same issue over the last couple of months. In particular, part way through some movies, it stops and buffers for between 30 seconds to a minute before continuing. This has never, ever been an issue before. Exactly the same thing happened today when I had friends round and we decided to watch a programme from Channel 4 via the Sky Q box app. The constant buffering became embarrassing and very annoying. I, too, am with BT Broadband and have around 950mbs to the hub, with ALL other devices working perfectly fine. I've tried resets but the problems recur. Something is clearly wrong Sky's end and I'll be calling them to discuss the matter tomorrow.

Good luck

My problems went away when I stopped using the Q's wifi. If I hadn't stumbled on the working network config I have now, I'd have cancelled Sky a couple of years back.

Mine is now fixed. I got an engineer out to replace the Q box and since then its sorted. You can book an engineer appointment online. Dead easy. Guy came out, I explained what was happening, he replaced box and bingo! Sorted that was on 15th Dec I think.

Re: Extremely slow SkyQ downloads - Not with Sky Broadband

Interesting, our box has been replaced, worked momentarily and still same issue. This is regardless of whether an Ethernet cable is connected or not. Interestingly started doing it again last couple of days and our mini decided to lose all connection and had to go through complete reset. Again!

nothing wrong with our broadband connection or speed so is definitely a Sky issue. Will try and contact them again but so far as useful as a chocolate teapot!

Re: Extremely slow SkyQ downloads - Not with Sky Broadband

So...here's my update on the slow download speed and buffering:

I contacted Sky a few days ago and detailed my concerns as well as outlining all the steps I had already taken to try and solve the problem and stressed that the issue seems commonplace given what I've read in this forum. The pleasant lady on the call asked me to try doing another software update, which I knew would be futile, but I obliged. Sure enough, after holding on the call for 15 minutes whilst the box was doing its thing, the software version hadn't changed. I asked why the box doesn't already indicate that there is no new update available, as my tv and laptop does, to save wasting time going through another download procedure for nothing. She didn't have an answer to this and agreed that it was a pity that the box didn't check first and not update if there was no need.
Anyway, she then noticed that my Sky Q box, which I had back in 2017, wasn't a more recent one capable of handling HDR content. On that basis she said that an engineer would call on the 11th of January to install a new one, which she was utterly confident would solve the problem! The only downside to this is that I would lose whatever recordings I had stored on the hard drive to watch on some future occasion. Oh well, I suppose a new box, at no cost to me, is not to be sniffed at, provided it solves the download speeds and buffering!
I'll keep everyone posted on how things go.

Re: Extremely slow SkyQ downloads - Not with Sky Broadband

Feel your pain, been on the same journey but have a new skybox an updated one at that. Surprise surprise it's no different, stilll slow and failed downloads except the HDMI signalling doesn't always work to turn on the tv and when it does the picture doesn't appear.
another call on Monday.

Re: Extremely slow SkyQ downloads - Not with Sky Broadband

Ok have been playing around with my internet as I have the same issue. I have 900 mbps but if you go into the Netflix app and check your download speed I'm only getting 6 mbps.

Other people have been saying that the Sky boxes can't handle the high speeds.

This is what I tried and I got it faster so hope this helps you..

If you are plugging directly into the router then you need to get a different switch which is one slower around 100 mbps this will slow down the internet to the Sky box when I did this I went back into Netflix and did a downlight speed and got 60 which I think that's the speed the Sky boxes can handle to.

Hope this helps someone to get faster downloads.
