Ethernet via Home Plugs

I have recently had FTTP installed due to speed issues with Sky broadband. Due to the main Sky Q and single Mini Box not forming a mesh any longer, can I connect them using ethernet via Devolo Magic 2 Mesh Home Plugs? Will the boxes communicate successfully? And will I be able to use the mesh WiFi generated by the home plugs?.

Yes, I'm using the magic2 without wifi to connect our q boxes via ethernet, with the wifi turned off on the sky boxes. we have a separate mesh using Plume devices, but there is no reason the Devolo mesh shouldn't work.

Hi @Marko59 

Powerline success largely depends on the condition and complexity of your mains circuit.

Using Devolo units here to connect two minis.  Main box and a further mini on full Ethernet.

All Q box WiFi turned off and additional Devolo WiFi units cloning a BT HH 6 WiFi..

Provided you can clone your Router WiFi you should be able to create a Devolo mesh which will then include your router.

When all boxes are connected by Ethernet you can switch off all Q box WiFi.

Start with main Q box and first carry out a Network reset with the Ethernet connected.
Network Reset found in Q box Home - Settings - Setup - Network.
Highlight Status and then select Reset on the right hand side. Select connect wired to non Sky Router (or Sky router if on Sky Broadband). Do not carry out any WPS and just wait for the box to connect. It may take a couple of minutes. If it does not connect there is an issue with the Ethernet connection.
As soon as it connects go into the Q box hidden menu and turn off WiFi.

To enter hidden menu press Home and navigate down to Settings but do not select Settings.
With Settings highlighted press 0 0 1 Select.
Go to Network to turn off both bands of WiFi. Confirm before exit.

Repeat the network reset on any minis in the Mini Home menu with the Ethernet connected. Again do not do any WPS and just wait for it to connect.
Once it is connected go into the mini hidden menu (same procedure as above) and turn off both bands of WiFi. Confirm before exit.

Further to my previous post concerning connecting Sky Q boxes with Ethernet. Despite not having Sky Broadband, my main and mini boxes have formed a 5ghz mesh, and I have an internet connection. I didn't think this was possible.

@Marko59 thats how it works you main Q box will only connect to your 3rd party router on the 2.4Ghz frequency then the main box generates it's own 5Ghz mesh that only the mini boxes will connect to

What happens with Sky, which doesn't happen with any other ISP is that any wifi mesh connected to your outer can be used by the sky boxes to talk to each other.
