Error - "The content you have selected cannot be played on this device".

Sky Q  mini box shows error when trying to watch one particular Sky Max recording "Funny Woman".

Error says - "The content you have selected cannot be played on this device".

I can play it OK on main Sky Q box. Other Sky Max recordings play OK on the mini box.

I have reset the modem and both the main and mini Sky boxes. Same software on both boxes which is the latest version.

Any ideas?

Problem solved. Another thrad has suggested that the recording is in UHD and appantely mini boxes do not play UHD. I would have thought that if you paid for UHD you should be able to watch on both boxes.

The problem of UHD programs not be played on the Sky Mini Box is easily solved, once you have selected the programme you wish to watch select All formats and then select Standard definition and the program will be downloaded in SD you can then watch the content on you Mini Box. 😄

We have the same problem but ours is a regular SkyQ box.  We rented that new Amy Winehouse film last night, but didn't get to finish it all.  So we have tried to start watching it again, only to be faced with this error message.  Also, the film still has another 24x hours before it expires.

I would try deleting it and re-downloading.

Wow.

What an absolutely dreadful way of doing things.  Sorry to drag this up but a recent update seems to have reset this, have 3 TV's in my house and 2 are HD 1 is UHD was wondering why one TV was fine but suddenly the other 2 couldn't play some content.  Now we know.

But it's a really un-user friendly way of doing things, if the 'error message' had explained the issue it would help....  Never had to do this until week 7 of series 2 'house of the dragon'....

@dj_stevie_c you have posted in the Sky Q forum which is completely different to Sky Stream as only the main Q box is capable of playing UHD programmes the mini boxes are not able to play UHD at all

All Sky stream pucks can sytream in UHD so you will not be having the same problem as the others as you should be able to watch UHD on all of your Stream boxes i'd check to make sure all the stream boxes are set the correct resolution to allow watching in UHD

I may be a Sky Superuser but I am still just a Sky customer

Sky Broadband Hub/SR203, Sky Ultrafast broadband
Ultimate on Demand, Q Experience/UHD, Sky Sports, Sky Cinema

Interesting.

My stream puck says it's UHD and the programs certainly look UHD.

I was looking an answer to the question I had and this gave me the answer but I didn't see exactly what forum it was on, no matter what, it's still a really bad design flaw in the software....

I would post a new thread in the Stream forum. The puck should work. I assume they downscale UHD content to whatever resolution the output is set to if the TV can't handle UHD.

The problem in this thread is specific to Q because its minis cannot handle UHD at all.
