I've received a message advising on returning equipment however I'm not sure why or what I'm supposed to return.

Afraid you are not contacting Sky directly here as this is a customer forum.

I presume you have recently given notice to cancel all or part of your Sky Q subscription. All Sky Q equipment is loaned to you for the duration of your subscription.
