Eero connection to SKYQ with 2 MAC addresses

I have a Sagecomm modem with Eero connected. I have 1 SKYQ box. My issue is that the SKYQ box regularly loses connection to the network. I am in conversation with Eero support. There appear to be 2 Sky boxes/units, but I only have 1 SKYQ box.

90:02:18:5c:5d:9c – this is the mac address from the SKYQ settings page, and the device that keeps dropping. Eero support says “Let them know the Sky unit is not getting an IPv4 address, as in it is not asking for one. The eero requires an IPv4 address to be able to communicate with the Sky device or any device on the network. The Sky unit may need to be reset back up.” Is this what I should do?

92:01:0c:2e:5d:99 – I can’t identify what this device is, but Eero support says it is working as expected. Can you help identify this?

Hi @Hallo07

Do you have your Q box connected by Ethernet?  See the following link.

https://helpforum.sky.com/t5/Broadband/Sky-Q-2-MAC-address/m-p/4132868#M315600

When all boxes are connected by Ethernet you can then switch off all Q box WiFi.

On the main Q box and first carry out a Network reset with the Ethernet connected.
Network Reset found in Q box Home - Settings - Setup - Network.
Highlight Status and then select Reset on the right hand side. Select connect wired to non Sky Router.  Do not carry out any WPS and just wait for the box to connect. It may take a couple of minutes. If it does not connect there is an issue with the Ethernet connection.
As soon as it connects go into the Q box hidden menu and turn off WiFi.

To enter hidden menu press Home and navigate down to Settings but do not select Settings.
With Settings highlighted press 0 0 1 Select.
Go to Network to turn off both bands of WiFi. Confirm before exit.

Repeat the network reset on any minis in the Mini Home menu with the Ethernet connected. Again do not do any WPS and just wait for it to connect.
Once it is connected go into the mini hidden menu (same procedure as above) and turn off both bands of WiFi. Confirm before exit.

No I don't. The Sky box is 25m from the modem/router.

Hi @Hallo07

Isn't the Eero system mesh nodes?

If it is you could connect the Ethernet to one of them.

Re: Eero connection to SKYQ with 2 MAC addresses

Neither of the 2 eeros are near the SkyQ box and I don't want to buy another.

I would like the answer to my questions:

Re: Eero connection to SKYQ with 2 MAC addresses

From my experience q boxes do show up "weirdly" on mesh. I've seen similar with the almost phantom devices.

For trouble shooting sky supposedly only connects to the 2.4 GHz channel on non sky WiFi.

I'm not familiar with eero but on the management side can you see that sky is connecting to the expected node and if possible direct it that way on the eero end.

Thinking outside the box, if you have access to any powerlines or what I have even used once, is a WiFi extender.

I used the WiFi extender to connect to WiFi and then wired that to the sky box. Sort of taking WiFi out of the hands of the sky boxes.

The 'answer' is that Q was designed back in 2014 to use a rather odd, very early and distinctly proprietary hybrid mesh licenced from AirTies.

https://advanced-television.com/2016/01/26/airties-supercharges-sky-q-wi-fi-devices/

Beyond that, Sky aren't going to now modify Q networking to better suit modern non-Sky mesh products: they apparently can't even do that to get their own Wifi Max system to work with Q Minis and boosters.

It's worth noting that Q probably has only a few years of life left before the end of satellite television broadcasting.
