Does the SkyQ box need a telephone connection?

I had my old Sky HD box upgraded yesterday to SkyQ. The telephone connection that had gone to the old box now looks to be not needed - but is it? It splits near the box and disappears therough the wall and outside to heaven knows where.  Can I disconnect it and throw it away?

Sky Q doesn't require a telephone connection. (In fact, the need to connect a Sky+ box to the phone line was removed many years ago too).
