Skyq booster installed by Sky midway boosting signal from tv to mini box. She also connected it to me EE router by ethernet cable. Is this connection necessary as my new router will be elsewhere in the house

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out moreAh ok so the booster is helping the Q to mini connection where it is. Ok that makes sense.
Ths booster is probably not configured to talk to the router over wifi which is why it stops working when you unplug it. I think. Should just be a case of using the WPS button on it and on the router but I wouldn't touch that while it's still working 🙂 until the new router is installed.

They can supposedly also go halfway between with wifi both sides. I didn't have a great experience with this but maybe just my network.
I don't see the point in attaching them by ethernet near a router. They'll just have a similar footprint to the router's signal then. Unless it's a long cable!

Thanks for response but am still not clear.
To clarify my query, I am getting new fibre by EE and I suspect they will want to fit their new router elsewhere in house. Currently my Sky q tv is connected to a mini box via a skyq booster mid-way between them. The booster is next to the current router and is connected by Ethernet cable to that router. If I disconnect the cable, the picture is currently lost on the mini.
Will I be able to set up the booster without an Ethernet cable connection to the new router?

Hi @Hesba
When using WiFi Sky Q boosters will only connect to Sky Q devices.
ie Sky Router, Main Q box box minis another Q booster.
However the advantage of connecting them by Ethernet to 3 rd party riouters by Ethernet is that you can then use WPS to the booster to connect your Main Q box or Mini.
If you cannot use Ethernet to the Booster with your new EE router then you cannot connect the booster to it.
It can be used midway between Q box and minis to aid Q WiFi connection but cannot connect to 3rd Party WiFi
