Is the aerial cable needed to go in the back of my sky q box to watch TV?

Thanks for this. Is this true for live TV and for channels such as bbc?
In the back of the sky q box is all I need the power cable and hdmi (and then connect to wifi) and I will be able to watch everything live or on catch up?
No, your Q box needs to be connectect to the Satellite dish without this the box can't function. I think you may have become mixed up with what is required as you mentioned aerial in your original post.
Sky Q boxes are meant to be used with a Satellite dish (not aerial).
An aerial is used for TV/Boxes designed for Freeview (terrestrial) channels.
If you are getting Sky Q installed this will be setup by the engineer as Sky will do all the neccessary work.

Sky Q boxes don't have an aerial connection, so you don't need it to be connected to Q.

But no need really...

Sky Q is a satellite television system with some online functionality, and so the main Q box absolutely requires a cabled connection to a satellite dish with a Q-compatible LNB pointing at the Astra 28.2E satellite cluster.
Q Mini boxes do not have a satellite dish cable connection because they get their live input from the main Q box.
Sky will not knowingly supply Q subscription and hardware to an address without dish access because it just won't work: the non-satellite Sky television product is Sky Stream.
