Are you holding the voice button down?

I use the newer non-touch remote (cos the touch thing was always a badly implemented gimmick) but I think they're still supported and should work.

Yes I hold down the button but it says no results straight away I think the new software has messed the V1 touch remote because with my new voice remote it doesn't happen

Oh alright

then it's probably my V1 remote then. I have had it for 7 years so that might be why

Re: Do Sky make V3 Sky Q 2TB boxes

Hi - I've just had a V3 box (ES340) replaced with I think a V2 box (ES240). Can I understand if the following are the only differences on the specs:-

- ES240 can't do HLG HDR and this only really effects BBC iPlayer UHD HDR availability (and ES340 can do HLG)?

- ES340 has a gigabit ethernet port, whilst ES240 has a 100mb ethernet port?

Is that all? The second one is frustrating as I have it hard wired for downloads.

Thanks

hi @AY2015  Do you have a separate power supply ?

i think you are right that an Es240 is a V2 box but it does do HL:G/HDR  for SKY content just for some reason not the iPlayer

I am not sure if the ethernet is 100mb vs Gigabit  but I think you may be correct but as UHD /HDR streaming (probably the biggest need of the network) needs less than 100mb  meaning you can also watch any download after only a short while (i.e. you don't need to  fully download to watch) , so really that shouldn't be an issue . I have a V2 which is hardwired and never noticed any problem with downloads

The V2 boxes also have a widely reported issue with HDMI handshaking with Denon/Marantz AVRs. Requires me to power cycle whenever this happens. I have also requested a V3 box and the customer service agent had no idea what I was talking about.

@souravr

I am fairly confident that their systems do not give any indication between V2 & V3 boxes - their systeme just indicate as 2TB UHD/HDR boxes - after that it is down to what stock the engineers have

Probably the only way to guarantee a V3 box would be downgrade to a 1TB box as all 1TB UHD/HDR are V3 boxes (there was no V2 variant of 1TB  & the 1TB v1 box was not UHD)

Re: Do Sky make V3 Sky Q 2TB boxes

As at Aug 2024, Sky V3 boxes are still available from Sky. Compared to v2 they superceed in 2017, they have quieter hard drives, much faster menu operation, 10x faster ethernet connection and internal power supply (instead of an external pack). They also work with more tv brands, for example the V2s having issues with Samsung sound. Oddly V2s remain the most common installation. The 1TB V3 (code ES340D8) ones are much more widely available than the 2TB (code ES340D9) ones, which can only be obtained through manager-level special order. Most call centre staff are not aware of this and cannot specify. V3 may be the last Q box variant made, as Stream and Glass are seen as replacements, despite having fewer key features and being totally wifi reliant.

Re: Do Sky make V3 Sky Q 2TB boxes

Thanks - after being passed from pillar to post despite explaining it needs manager level approval for it I haven't got it and have given up on Sky. Will likely cancel at the end of contract as so disappointed with them.

The V2 boxes also have 1Gb ethernet vs 100Mbps on the V1.

He did say 10x ethernet connection 😉

not that >100Mb is really needed.

Re: Do Sky make V3 Sky Q 2TB boxes

I had understood only V3's have 1gbps Ethernet (and strangely BBC iPlayer UHD HDR enabled too), vs the other boxes. As I have wired Ethernet and did have a V3 box, this was my main bugbear with the V2 replacement I received. However, Sky's constant dialogue is "you have HDR so you should be happy".

many thanks
