Construction across our small street has now blocked our satellite signal.

We have a 6 story building going up across our small street. Their construction "offices" arrived today and have blocked our satellite signal. According to the crew, the offices will remain for the next year, at least. We have zero signal. Will sky move the satellite?  We have Sky Q and have been customers for 10 years. Any direction would be helpful. I don't want to hear suggestions of skyglass... I just want what we have to work properly. Thanks!!

Typically they'll move it but I believe only to a certain height and attached to the main property, not a pole in a garden or similar. An independent installer might be more flexible.

@Superbowl4Pats

As long as there is a suitable place to move your dish to that provides a signal and is accessible for future maintenance they should move it. Engineers will be busy at present after the recent storms. If you go down the route of employing a local satellite company get a quote and make sure they don't move the dish to a location Sky won't work on if needed because of their more stringent H & S regulations.

The two posts above are presuming you mean your satellite dish rather than the satellite. They are correct I hope 😉

Edit: BTW, the dish has to be pointed in one direction and one direction only. There are no alternate satellites similar to Freeview where you may be able to use a different transmitter.

If this was me I'd be hounding the construction company across the road to seek a resolution to the loss of signal. It may not meet with any success but it is certainly worth trying after all it is their works causing this issue and I'd be requesting some kind of financial renumeration.

And they would, rightly, laugh in your face.

The OP has nothing to lose but the builders are under no obligation to engage in any dialogue or offer any reimbursement. This was something that perhaps should have been discussed at any planning meetings with local residents prior to work starting.

Yes, it's a satellite dish.

You would think they would've moved all the dishes in the area in advance. However, there was a previous temp office on site until 2 days ago and it didn't block anything. These new monstrosities arrived yesterday. We assumed they were unloading supplies. Nope. As we live in a building with over 100 flats, there are several satellite dishes near ours. My husband did have a chat with the Mgr on-site who was nice and helpful and confirmed it was going to be there until at least December of 2024, perhaps into 2025. Because as we all know construction projects always run exactly to plan. 🙄  I just want my telly working.  Am I going to be stuck with having to get sky glass?  Can I even watch live tv with sky glass?

thanks, all!

My husband has a wee chat with the on-site Mgr and he  was quite kind. I don't think there's anything they can/will do. I've messaged the council and our building manager.

I'm afraid Sky wouldn't have moved a dish, let alone a lot of dishes, on the offchance building work may impact viewing.

They fitted individual dishes for each flat??

And you know these discussions have actually taken place? I very much doubt it.

What if's don't matter and it is always worth opening up a dialogue. If it was me I'd certainly would be seeking a financial renumeration for having to have a dish moved, or, if it can't, for loss of a something previously enjoyed before the works took place. If none was forthcoming I certainly would not have an issue taking the developers to a small claims court.

"Remuneration"

Yeah I know, seems like it should be the other way round but... something to do with latin.

So you would recommend the OP to waste money going to a small claims court that would also laugh in their face?

Out of interest how much do you think they should get, given that when the construction is finished they may still not have any satellite signal?
