Thanks, the DVD player doesn't have any form of optical or HDMI. I do have a picture of the back of the unit I'll send it across. Thanks again.

So the dvd player is also the audio system ?
It only seems to have one set of inputs apart from a Scart
I am not sure if the SCart can also be used as Input but my initial feeling is not

Yes the DVD is all part as one. I have plugged the Left and Right male connectors into the DVD and transferred into the Optical converter but no joy. I have also brought this to try a different way around it but still no joy. This plugged into the Scart and transferred to HDMI. again no joy.

I have to admit I have struggled to find out from the manual how you select the analogue inputs on the LG - maybe I will have another read tomorrow.
BTW You have to bear in mind that you will only get Stereo via these inputs

Ah no worries. I must admit this kind of thing isn't my jam. But I have literally tried everything I can think of. No worries at all. Really appreciate your help. Thanks again.

I fear it might be time to retire this puppy to the great recycling centre in the sky (no pun intended) and get a bluray player (or a cheap dvd player if that's all that's needed), and a soundbar.
