Connecting my Yamaha Surround System to Samsung TV and Sky Q

I have a Samsung QE55Q95T television and a Yamaha HTR-2067 which I think only supports HD pictures not UHD. My Samsung has an eARC HDMI port, but am I correct that because the AVC only has ARC port I can push the pictures from my SkyQ through it, but to get UHD can only contact my SkyQ direct to the TV. But to get the surround sound I need to use an Optical Cable from theTV to the AVC. I am really confused as to what connections I need to make via HDMI and what ports I should use. Any help would be much appreciated

Connect the Q box directly to the TV using an HDMI cable so that you will get UHD without any issue. You can then either connect the TV to the Yamaha using HDMI ARC or via optical.

To connect via ARC you'd connect another HDMI cable from the HDMI eARC port on the TV to the HDMI ARC port on the Yamaha (confusingly often labelled as HDMI output). This will then send any audio from the TV (including that from your Q box) to the Yamaha.

Alternatively, you can run an optical cable from the Q box to the optical input on the Yamaha - this will send the audio directly to the Yamaha.

Optical is probably better in your case as it's an older amp, not Atmos compatible, and you're less likely to get any lip-sync errors with optical, but it's worth experimenting to see what works better for you.

hi @Tangmere12

I admit I haven;t looked up the Amp specs etc  but do have Yamaha amps myself

I would suggest you try to use an HDMI lead from your TV's (e)ARC port to the ARC connection on the Amp as detailed by @BenJoBanjo . By doing this you will be able to use your Amp with sound from the TV's inbuilt Apps

Although as @BenJoBanjo there is a slight risk that going that route could lead to lipsync problems, in which case you may be better to use the optical from the SKY Q box
