Connect Sky Q box to Sony stereo with Opitcal Cable

Hi

I used to run my old sky box through the stereo via the red and white stereo cables straight into sky box connected to stereo, the new sky Q box does not have stereo cable ports. My stereo (old Sony) has optical cable can I connect the stereo straight to the sky Q box with optical?  If so what audio settings do I need on Sky Q box? The TV has optical cable port but no optical input option on TV sound settings, I am not the most technical person, can someone please help, the sound quality on the is terrible.

Hi @NicHelp1   You should connect your old stereo system using the optical cable from TV to the stereo system. That way you can liston to both TV and Sky Q box through the stereo. I don't understand why you mention TV optical in? The TV receives the audio in via the HDMI cable with the pictures, which then outputs the audio via optical to the stereo system.

Thank you for your response, I have connected the optical cable from TV to stereo but there is not opitcal cable option on TV sound menu, only SPIF, which doesn't work, or HDM ARC? So was going to connect from sky box to stereo as only watch through Sky anyway.

What's the make and model of the television set?  Some cannot take audio from an external HDMI source and pass it to their own optical output.

Thank you I did read that although all have optical port not all have the functionality? It is a bush DLED32HDSC. Is there a converter or something that I can use?

Not sure why you are not getting sound from your TV but if you only want to listen to SKY TV via your audio system the SKY Q box has an optical output that you can connect to your system

you are likely to need to set this setting to Normal

Home - Settings - Setup - Audio Visual
Digital audio output Optical

Are you sure you are selecting the correct input on your Stereo unit

Edit : You may need to check the manual in case it 'doubles up' on inouts and  you may need to change a setting or disconnect an analogue connection

Is on right setting have removed the analogue connection too is only optical cable into setero now? Is driving me up the wall gggrrr
