Hoping that some wonderful person in this forum can help.
I have an engineer booked today to take down my Sky satellite dish. I did ask if it was needed anymore for my TV and the Sky agent said it was not needed. I have Sky Q and presumed they would know my account details? I have since read that I do need that dish to be able to get TV channels etc.
Hope someone can advise.

hi @Gower23
SKY Q still requires a Satellite dish - it will not work without one (although it may be used for some aspects for a few days or so without a signal)
SKY do have products that do not require a dish - SKY Glass (TV) or SKY Stream which rely solely on the internet but SKY Q is not one
You can switch to SKY Stream (or buy a Glass TV) mid subsciption if you wanted but it is quite a different product in some ways & does rely on a stable internet connecton

Re: Confusion over satellite dish for Sky Q - been told I can remove it?
Q absolutely needs a dish and will not work without one.
Unless you are switching to a streaming service (such as Glass or Stream) then you need the dish.
I'm confused as Sky engineers do not remove dishes afaik...

Re: Confusion over satellite dish for Sky Q - been told I can remove it?
thank you so much for the answer. I will send the person away then when they arrive this pm.
I am not happy that I was informed it was ok to take down? surely they should know my account details?

thanks for the answer.
I am not sure who will turn up this pm? sky or open reach? or someone else. It's such an awful experience and not at all user focused.
I will tell then to not take it down.

hi @Gower23 it is worrying that this is the advice you have been given.
We know SKY Q is not actively marketed and does ultimately have a finite life due to the Satllites reaching their end of life towards the end of the decade & that SKY Glass/Stream are the ways forward but there shoud be no excuse for being given this incorrect advice

Re: Confusion over satellite dish for Sky Q - been told I can remove it?
thanks for the link.
I will wait a bit as on Monday someone is coming to fix my Fibre Broadband which was only installed 2 weeks ago but stopped working.
I don't want to confuse them even more.
Friday was stressful and on the live chat with 7 different departments to get someone to come out. It took me 6 hours on Friday and I had to pay for a month of my wifi dongle.
I also missed the international rugby yesterday as the dongle was not fast enough for my firestick! :[
thanks all - what a fab community of helpers you are

Satellite TV dishes have nothing to do with internet / telecoms so it won't be openreach.
