Configuring Sky Q in an Ethernet home network to add a TP-Link Deco mesh wifi system

I have a Sky Q hub connected via an Ethernet switch to an Ethernet network and currently TP-Link WAPs also wired back to the switch to provide whole house wifi coverage.  The Sky hub wifi is disabled. I would like to replace the WAPs with a TP-Link Deco mesh wifi system.  Has someone done this?

No but it shouldn't affect the Sky ethernet connection. Are there minis involved over wifi here somewhere? Edit: no, can't be, you've disabled wifi.

So each of the Deco boxes is configured as an Access Point and I simply replace the current TP-Link WAPs with the Deco ones and away we go?  No changes to the Q Hub.

Hi @ChrisC2020 

Assuming all Q boxes are connected by the Ethernet to your Network and by the same method and all boxes are connected by Ethernet you can then switch off all Q box WiFi.

Start with main Q box and first carry out a Network reset with the Ethernet connected.
Network Reset found in Q box Home - Settings - Setup - Network.
Highlight Status and then select Reset on the right hand side. Select connect wired to non Sky Router . Do not carry out any WPS and just wait for the box to connect. It may take a couple of minutes. If it does not connect there is an issue with the Ethernet connection.
As soon as it connects go into the Q box hidden menu and turn off WiFi.

To enter hidden menu press Home and navigate down to Settings but do not select Settings.
With Settings highlighted press 0 0 1 Select.
Go to Network to turn off both bands of WiFi. Confirm before exit.

Repeat the network reset on any minis in the Mini Home menu with the Ethernet connected. Again do not do any WPS and just wait for it to connect.
Once it is connected go into the mini hidden menu (same procedure as above) and turn off both bands of WiFi. Confirm before exit.

In my case:

 

BT is the ISP

Deco E4 Mesh system, internet connected with an E4 at the router

Main Sky box and Sky Mini BOTH connected to the their E4's via Ethernet

Wifi switched off on both Main Sky and Mini boxes.

 

Sky Mini box keeps dropping out. Is the above configuration known to work, or are the E4's known to be problematic even when connected to their Sky boxes over Ethernet from their E4's?

did you find a good solution in the end? 
I have been trying to move all the SkyQ to Deco's via wired connections for each. 
I've had problems today with the Minis pausing or losing connection.

I'm in the process of upgrading my home network as I constantly have issues with connection to Sky Q mini dropping out. It has become unwatchable. I had thought it was down to network congestion and Sky Hub not being a very good router. I've upgraded the router and just using Hub as a modem only (and for Sky Talk to keep landline). I now have a very highly specified Asus RT-BE88U and will be getting a couple of extra Asus WiFi routers to create a mesh. I'm pretty sure network congestion is / was due to network security cameras and NVR. Even taking them out of equation hasn't resolved Sky Q dropping out. I'm hoping creating the mesh will help. I also have Sky WiFi turned off and was relying on wired network. I'm wondering if that might be the issue as although my house has CAT5 I have a horrible feeling it is not CAT5e which means only 100mbps connections. I'm hopeful having a higher performing mesh network will mean that I can connect Sky boxes to Asus APs and then having everything over WiFi will resolve issues. If anyone has thoughts / suggestions please shout!

Perhaps note that a Sky Hub is always a router: it doesn't have a modem mode.

 

Encountering actual Cat5 ethernet would be unusual: the 5e standard has been around for a quarter of a century.  It's possible that you've got Copper Clad Aluminium (CCA) cable though, and that doesn't rate any Cat status, or possibly the cable only has four rather than eight strands, and would then be inherently limited to 100Mbs by autonegotiation.
