Is it set to use an HDMI source?

You'd use the television remote control to change the input to the HDMI port which the Q box is connected to.

With the remote control supplied with the TV normally. Have a read of the TV's manual.
Alternatively, hitting the Sky button on the Sky remote may send a CEC signal so the TV automatically switches.

As mentioned by the others above, you press the source selection button on the TV remote to cycle through the inputs. Usually looks like a TV screen with an arrow pointing into it from the left.
Let it stop on each one for 5 seconds to give it a chance to sync any incoming signal.

Doesn't the Sky Q remote have the ability to do this like the Sky+HD remote does?

Sort of but I would do it with the TV remote first to make sure it was all working and not being screwed up by a bad sky remote config.
Get a picture first and then start worrying about optimising the number of remotes.
