Re: "If your Receiver does not pass through the full signal  then providing the cable is short enough  you could plug into HDMI 1 and use ARC from the TV (or possibly use optical from the SKY Q box)"

Apologies if being a tad thick, but do you mean plug Q-box directly into HDMI 1 on TV (as opposed to the receiver as is presently) and then use a cable from the TVs' HDMI-2 port (ARC) into the receiver?? This is not my area of expertise!

ARC Stands for Audio Return Channel and allows the sound from your TV (either Freeview, apps or anything via HDMI) to be routed to the AV Amp

So, yes - although you may have to select the Audio out from your TV to use your Amp  ( Sound -> Speaker Selection to Home Cinema on my Panasonic) rather than TV speakers.

I have to do this each time on mine but like you most things go through my AV Amp directly so I don't use the ARC  connection for sound very often & I also do sometimes use the TV speakers rather than power up the Amp. - I  thus haven't spent time to try seeing if I could set it  to always use the AV Amp

edit : BTW if you use apps like Netflix or Disney + / Amazon Prime - we recommend using the TV's inbuilt apps & use the ARC connection for sound

Thanks all - reall helpful. @ nigea99 I tried what you suggested and somewhat to my surprise it works!! Q box to TV HDMI 1 and TV to Pioneer via HDMI 2 (ARC). Now got 10 bit HDR and sound output via the receiver - for some reason the sound is all over the place, so I'll need to recalibrate it , but none the less it works!
