Cannot get 10 bit HDR on Q Box with new Panasonic TV!

Just bought a Panasonic TX-77LZ2000 OLED. Connceted to SkyQ box and all HDMI settings on the Pana are correct (mode 2) BUT keep on getting error message when trying to select 10bit and can only select 8bit.  Any help appreciated!

I have a Panasonic  GZ950.

The HDMI mode 2 is the key one, so not too sure why you are not able  to set 10 bit.

I don't think this should stop 10 bit, as such,  but if this is not set it stops HDR content :

HDMI HDR Setting - Dynamic (possibly works with Static as well)

I really don't think these will affect it but I also have the following set:

Picture Settings ->Option Settings ->  HDMI YCbCr Range is set to Full for the HDMI you are using (the default seems to be normal).

I have also set the HDMI RGB Range set to Auto rather than Normal

It shouldn;t make a difference but (with the Mode 2 set) try a full power down restart (e.g. unplug or switch off at mains)  of the TV

Hi @roddw1

What length is your HDMI cable?

2m (SKY Q Box type) - I also tried an 8k HDMI cable, but still no 10bit. 😞

In which case make sure that the Pioneer is correctly set - Page 90 in the manual I found

Is the Lead from the Pioneer to TV also <3m ?

Hi @roddw1

Have you tried plugging the Q box direct into the TV.

If the receiver was released in 2015 I don't think it will cope with HLG HDR

Re: Cannot get 10 bit HDR on Q Box with new Panasonic TV!

Yes, I'lll give that a try, thanks! If that works and it is the recevier at fault , is there anyway I can only use it for sound, or a way to send the sound only to the recevier?? I ask as I have a full (and expensive!) surround sound sytem controlled by the recevier and it would be such a shame not to be able to use it!?

If not, is the 10bit worth losing it for as compared to 8  (bearing in mind how few broadcasts use it)?

Thanks in advance - you can tell this is not my area!!!

Hi @roddw1

You could use the Q box optical out into the pioneer to get Audio .

Certainly with that TV you will get a better experience using 10 bit and HDR assuming you have an HDR capable Q box and a UHD subscription.

See this link for Q box versions

Edit

Optical out will not handle Dolby Digital plus

Another edit

The TV will handle all the Q box audio formats through HDMI but of course you will not get your surround sound from the Pioneer.

10bit HDR is definitely worth it over 8 bit (or 10 bit non HDR)

If your Receiver does not pass through the full signal  then providing the cable is short enough  you could plug into HDMI 1 and use ARC from the TV (or possibly use optical from the SKY Q box)

Thanks both!

Apologies if being a tad thick, but do you mean plug Q-box directly into HDMI 1 on TV (as opposed to the receiver as is presently) and then use a cable from the TVs' HDMI-2 port (ARC) into the receiver?? This is not my area of expertise!
