Cancel SKY Q or Pair it back or these options...
Reposting this as it ended up in the wrong place somehow.
My costs have spiralled to nearly £2k a year and looking at the rate of price increases SKY adopts it may overtake that.
I've decided enough is enough.
Note, I have Disney, Apple, :PRIME and Netflix anyway.
So some choices :
- Option 1
~Pair Back SKY to the basic Signature package with SKY HD, That should run me around £37 , (£8 + £29.50) unless I fully cancel and may get a few ex quid off.
Ultimate TV addon £8, that's cheaper than Netflix charge me anyway.
Mutiroom £14 - - Really do need this it's one of the reasons I have stuck with SKY (Annoyingly £5 to new customers currently)
So I could reduce from a £160 a month approx to £59 .
That would leave me with the fantastic sky box and access to the 100 odd films I have bought through sky over the decades.
Option 2:
https://www.sky.com/help/articles/tv-essentials
Essentials for freeview, retain the box etc for £15 quid just get the only important packages from SKY Entertainment + HD via NOW TV for £13
So £28 +multiroom = £42 a month.
Not sure whether that saving of £10 a month is worth it but NOW TV does offer a lot of flexability.
Option 3:
Give up on SKY entirely. Go get a freesat HD box - or Humax for normal channels
Retain useful functionality like record and a great EPG etc add an Expresso 3 for multiroom .
Zero monthlly charges of any kind
Just grab NOW T HD for £13 a month done.
Option 4:
Not sure if possible, insert a freeview card into a SKY Q and just pay SKY the £150 to keep the box?
Option 5
EE TV added on to my broadband package
As I have broadband with EE anyway, their packages are crazy appealing.
Multiroom is FREE
Box has record function etc
£44 a month for SKY signature basically but INCLUDES the broadband
Really good value other than I like not having to rely purely on wifi.
These options seem sound, any others?

Option 4 is not possible. Free to air stuff might work but you can't record. Better to buy a freesat4k box (you need that to use the Q LNB)
You don't get Netflix UHD for that £8 do you?
NowTV is not UHD but neither are your other options. Not sure about EE?
(it's "pare" by the way)

Re: Cancel SKY Q or Pair it back or these options...
I find this very useful. I have tried reducing my total sky package unsuccessfully in the main, partly my fault because I haven't understood the billing system. With TV I find the options confusing and have tended to 'grow' my package by default. What I thought was an ongoing discussion last November produced a contract which I thought, wrongly, was not finalised so it has resulted in an early cancellation fee.

Re: Cancel SKY Q or Pair it back or these options...
Thank you . Good to know.
Yes, last year I was all ready to 100% cancel.
After about an hour on the phone I got big discounts on every element of the package I had.,
Which was
Sky Essentials
SKY HD
Ultra HD
Sports TNT and SKy + SKY Sports HD
Movies
Multiroom
ultimate TV addon
I get the full Netflix for £8 which is cheaper than the £12,99 I would have to pay Netflix.
I really dont' want to leave SKY in truth - but the pricing has made it just aburd comparative to EE TV as I have my broadband there.
It really only adds £10 to the broadband cost which is mad.
Multiroom is free!

Full Netflix is 15.99. That's what I pay. Plus another 8 for my daughter as she's at uni.

Re: Cancel SKY Q or Pair it back or these options...
I am paying £8 for Netflix.
I have 4 user profiles on it.
HD
No ads etc
Is that really £15.99 + £8 for the extra users? direct from Netflix??

You said full Netflix. The top tier one that's 15.99 is UHD, not HD.

Re: Cancel SKY Q or Pair it back or these options...
Hmm. I actually don't know if it's UHD , how can I check?
Multiple people can watch at once.
I have no ads.
Looking at their webiste the cheap one has ads.
I presume I have the full package ?

Re: Cancel SKY Q or Pair it back or these options...
OK just found this
https://www.netflix.com/signup/planform
Perhaps I only ahve the £12.,99 one an no UHD.
If I do have only HD I am fine with the quality.
My eye sight is terrible nowadays. I used to have to have the latest £4000 tv all the time and focussed so hard on having it calibrated etc
Nowaday, I can only tell the difference between SD and HD.

Think you have the middle tier "Standard". HD and 2 screens at once.

Re: Cancel SKY Q or Pair it back or these options...
Yeah you might be right.
When I login to netflix it won't let me see what package I have.
It forces me to profiles set up and gives me no other options to see any other settings!

And Netflix support HDR on HD (unlike Sky or BBC) so you get the improved contrast range and colours which are a bigger quality improvement than the UHD resolution imho.

Re: Cancel SKY Q or Pair it back or these options...
I just found settings by going direct to the link via Google.
I have the UHD package
Premium plan
4K video resolution with spatial audio, advert-free watching and more.
So £8 is an underated bargain to be fair.
I wonder does the fact I am paying £4 for SKY UHD having anything to do with the fact my Netflix UHD is so cheap?

Re: Cancel SKY Q or Pair it back or these options...
Yeah. That saves basically £11 a month or more. on NF which is excellent.
I am trying to find a way to justify SKY.
It just seems EE TV is absurdly cheaper.
BUT EE TV has it's issues such as multiroom only records on the device you record on.
it's not coordinated like SKY's multiroom.
But then it is free and SKY multiroom is £170 a year.
EE TV is broadand (which already costs me £33 a month) + Basic SKY and free netflix for £44 a month!
So I would get SKY Signature + Netflix for £11 a month and free multiroom!
