Can you use a Splitter on a SKY Q Box ?

We have recently installed a SKY Q Box that services 2 TV’s. We want to temporarily add another TV so wired up an HDMI splitter ( to the cable that comes from the box to the TV ) and connected it to the second TV.

However we are unable to get a picture on the second TV. By process of elimination we are confident it is not a cable fault ( tried multiple working cables )  and have purchased a new splitter so it is not that either. The thing is this used to work when we had a standard SKY Box.

Do you know if it is possible to use a splitter with SKY Q, are we missing something or can you suggest any other way to address this please ?

hi @Luke+Skyhater

I have no personal experience but reading the discussions here. the use of HDMI splitters with SKY Q does seema little hit & miss.

It is quite possible that SKY Q will only work with some makes.

I think the key thing is that splitter must be fully HDCP compliant.

What Screen resolution is you box set to  - you are much more likely to have problems with 2160 aka 4K

It has to be a splitter rather than a switch: these are not the same thing.

For UHD, 4K at 60Hz must be specified (4K at 30Hz won't work)

The television sets must be capable of and operating at the same resolution: you can't mix an HD panel with a UHD unit.

Each HDMI cable must be under three metres for UHD.

Re: Can you use a Splitter on a SKY Q Box ?

Thank you for taking the time to answer my question. What I did to resolve this issue was plug in a Cat6 splitter ( that has 1 HDMI IN & Out and 5 Cat6 out ) into the SKY Box and  then ran out multiple cat six connections to each of the TVs with a Cat6 converter (RJ, 45 to HDMI) on each TV. Works a treat is very stable and can run long lengths. I would recommend this solution.

Any chance you can repeat your solution in plain English! Sounds simple but many of us are not so much 'user friendly' but 'user illiterate ' 🤭
