Can i swap my Sky+ box with my mum's Sky Q box?

I currently use a Sky+ box which i find really easy to use as it clearly shows all my recordings and what is set up. My elderly mum has a Sky Q box and is finding it increasingly harder to use as the menus etc are so confusing. Must admit, even I don't like it and I love technology and am pretty savvy with most things. Would we be able to swap our boxes over so she could have my simpler Sky+ box?

Afraid not @MsAllyjc Both boxes must only be used, and more importantly can only be used, at the account address.

Many thanks, I might have to get in touch with Sky and see if they will change her box then.

@MsAllyjc

Sky won't revert a Sky Q box back to Sky+.

BTW @MsAllyjc

SKy Q boxes & SKY HD boxes cannot be switched with each other even if you could account wise.

They use a different  Electronic bit on the dish (LNB)  - your Mother's would have been changed when upgraded to SKY Q

@MsAllyjc is it the actual menus confusing your mum or could it be the remote Sky do do an accessibilty remote might be an idea to register your mum with the Sky accessibility team details in the link below and see if a different remote may help the situation

Also, to add to Daniel's comment; The connection to the satelitte from Sky+ and Sky Q are different, so they would not work if switched.

Also, Sky remain the property owner of all Sky Q boxes, so by Ally using the box in another place actually breaks the contract.

(Note: All Sky+HD and older Sky boxes are owned by the customer)

Services I use on Sky:
  • Sky Q in Ireland:
    • [Sky Signature, Sky Cinema, Sky HD, Paramount+, Discovery+ (Standard)]
  • Sky Ultrafast Max (Fibre Internet)
  • Sky Talk (VoIP)
  • Sky Mobile
  • Disney+

Please treat everyone with respect. ☺️

Doubt she'll find Virgin much easier to navigate.

It's an unfortunate fact that technology is changing ever faster and the older we are, the more difficult it is to deal with especially when things like dementia are a factor.

People can still learn it but it's a fact that some struggle and take longer. I mean I'm not "old old" and I just completed an M.Sc. but I find the multiple routes to what seem to be very similar concepts on Sky Q seriously unintuitive.

IMHO consumer devices that are baseline for being part of society (I would include smartphones in that category these days) should be mandated to have a simplified interface available in circumstances like these.
