I've been told that I need to upgrade my Sky Q box to get Sky UHD to work. I'm just wondering if it's possible to get 4k/UHD content to play on on the steaming apps (Prime Video/Apple/Disney) on my Sky Q 1tb box.

Hi @Ben.C
Not if your Q box is not UHD capable I'm afraid .
If your TV set is UHD then you should be able to get the Apps on that

thanks, I thought that was the case. I wish I'd realised it earlier. I've had my new TV for 2 years and I've always used the apps on Sky Q instead of on my TV.

hi @Ben.C
Whilst the apps on SKY Q are convenient, we do recommend people use the apps on their TVs as they are more likely to be optimised for the TV and are more likely to use Dolby Vision or HDR 10+ for HDR, (Prime have some some shows that I know use these) which are better versions of HDR than used by the SKY Q box
(The TV apps are also more likely to have Atmos Sound that some apps on SKY Q don't have, if that is relevant to you also)
Sorry you may have been missing out on the best experience
Personally I either use my TVs apps or apps on my Amazon Firesticks

They also support native 24Hz framerate which the Q box does not.

Is it still better to use the apps on the TV instead of on the Sky box if you've got a Sky Q box that allows Sky UHD?

Yes - That was the point I was trying to make

yes, for all the reasons above which were a comparison with sky q boxes that do support UHD.
The benefit of sky, as I see it, is single search wirh voice (doesn't cover all apps) and the fact a mini might be plugged into a TV with no other way to access the apps.
