You cannot just swap boxes . You need to replace your Sky+HD Account and TV package for a Sky Q account and TV package.

I have canceled my sky tv account and they are wanting the old box box so I brought a older sky hd box to use as a freesat box, is there anyway of using it

If you are trying to revert back to SKY HD from SKY Q,  I am afraid the answer is you can't

hi @Jet1987  

The only way to use an old HD box is to get the LNB (the electronic bit on the dish) changed back to a 'Universal' LNB 

BTW THe latest 4K Freesat boxes can work with the Wideband LNB that SKY Q uses

I have tryed the sky HD box in my bedroom where there is currently a free sat box and the sky hd box works there, seems strange that it was there but not where the sky q box is??

Where customers had Freesat boxes SKY would sometimes install what is called a Hybrid LNB which has 2 sets of outputs - wideband for use with SKY Q & Universal outputs for Freesat.

Not at all, that's exactly what I'd expect. Must have a separate connection coming off a hybrid LNB to that box, as above.

You mention that a freesat box works in another room so it depends if you want to keep that working.

If you don't then switching the connectiions over at the LNB should work.

I suspect, however, you want that to keep working.

If this is the case you probably have 2 options.

1) Forget the 2nd hand SKY HD box and get a Freesat 4K box which works with the wideband outputs as used by SKY Q

or

2) Get the LNB changed for another with all 'Universal' outputs
