My son has told me I can charge my phone using the spare usb on the back of my sky q box. When you plug it in there is no power. Do they not work?

Thank you for replying. There does appear to be any harm done from trying. We live and learn. Do you know what the port is for as there is nothing plugged in it?

Typically for firmware updating during manufacture.
Also possibly just because it adds almost no cost and is then available for as-yet unknown future expansion options.

Fab thank you, it did very little so doesn't seem to have damaged the phone, I was concerned. But if it has no current use then it can't damage anything eh

I have used them to power an IR extender but it took far less than 500mA.
