Calling N.Ireland customers..

Here in sunny N.Ireland we have a broadband company known as Fibrus.I tried Fibrus as it was £19.99 a month, much cheaper than Sky Broadband. It worked OK for a while with very good upload and download speeds but the it began disconnecting from Sky Q on a regular basis.Rebooting the  Sky Q box worked sometimes. So did rebooting the Fibrus hub but a lot of the time it involved resetting the internet connection to the Sky box. This involved entering a long mixture of caps, numbers and lower case passwords which is a drag.Fibrus tell me there is a known issue with its hub and Sky Q (now they tell me).I just wondered if any other N,Ireland contributors had the same problem.

This is a pretty common type of problem across just about any ISP and router.

Worth trying getting a TPLink RE200 wifi extender. Has worked for a few people.

Keep the box though, just in case it has to go back 😉

Hi again Chodley.I raised the point because in all my years with Sky broadband I never had this problem but with Fibrus its become nearly a weekly occurrance,The thing is,other members of my family dont seem to have this problem, and theyre with Fibrus and Sky Q.The Sky box is literally 4 metres from the hub so its not a distance thing.I just wondered if any other NI customers had the same problem.

Hi @radiolistener

Any possibilty to connect the Q box by Ethernet to your router?

I have this theory that

It also might be worth, given your box is so near the router, splitting the 5GHz SSID to a different name just in case it's confusing the Q. Maybe your friends only see the 2.4 (which Q uses with 3rd party ISPs) as 5 is out of range?

The wifi extender thing has worked for various non-Sky ISPs. As has using ethernet instead. And rarely so has changing DNS to cloudflare or google.

Re: Calling N.Ireland customers..

Thanx chaps. An ethernet cable is not favourable as it would involve a cable across the living room floor. The Skybox connection is already on 2.4ghz so I'm not sure. The fact that Fibrus said that there is a conflict with Sky Q I'll take witha pinch of salt because if that were the case then anybody with Q would be affected, which is not the case.I'll let it ride for the moment and see if anyone else from N.I. has anything to add.I may return to Sky broadband as I never had this problem with them.😊

You'll find loads of people in here with all variations of non-Sky ISPs saying the same. It's just that Fibrus don't know how to fix it so don't want the support headache. I don't think there's anything specific to NI in this.

Re: Calling N.Ireland customers..

Sorry Chodley I was under the mistaken belief that Fibrus was confined to N.I. I now see it also covers part of Cumbria as well.My bad.

Not so much that, but Q with ISPs all over the UK (including BT) have the same issues.
