Got my Sky Max Wifi Hub today. It set-up ok, and i got connected to everything on wi-fi , but not to my Sky Q box. tried umpteen times , but keep getting message that it was unsuccesful. Held WEP button for more than 2 minutes a few times, did not make any difference. Followed guide info to the letter. It does say i may need a Sky Q booster. Crap, my Q box is less than 4 metres away from HUB just other side of plasteboard wall. Looks like i will have to call someone for help. For the record, my original sky q hub i got with the sky q box 3 or 4 years ago worked fine and connected fine.

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out moreYou mean WPS? It should connect through that wall ok. You did a full network reset on the Q?

I just did a full reset on my Q Box and it still will not connect to my broadband.

I bought the tp link power line WiFi extender TL WPA7517 which solved this problem (wife and kids couldn't wait for sky to come out!) but this slows down the connection to the sky q box- long term solution is hard wiring in the sky q box which is my next action

I even tried deleting my saved programmes, and rebooting Sky Max hub, which is new today.

I may go down that road, ethernet is always better than wifi connection.

Mini boxes are turned off when you're doing this?

The tp link option did work because you can connect your sky q box to the power line socket with an Ethernet cable which stopped the signal breaking, I spoke to the tech guys at curry's pc world and they said that worked much better than WiFi extenders because they can only boost whatever signal is their. The issue with it is speed though- I have full fibre 150mbps and I only get 80mbps through the powerline

While I agree that powerline is better the idea that "they can only boost whatever signal is there" is classic PC World nonsense. The point is the extender sits within a decent strength range of the router and then re-broadcasts the signal (and vice versa with device to router comms) like a relay. So it extends the area over which a device can find a wifi signal.

no mini boxes or boosters

Decided. I go get Ethernet cable tomorrow and hard wire my connection between Sky Q box and Sky Max hub. Should solve the problem , full stop.

Problem sorted. I bought an Ethernet Cat6 cable at Curry's this morning and installed it between my Sky Max Hub and my Sky Q Box. Everything is working fine now. Used the simple instructions i got online from Sky Help. You need to disable the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz wireless ( only if you are not connecting mini boxes using Wi-Fi ).
