Re: Broadband not connecting to sky Q box

I'm afraid to say that after my positive post last October I'm still having mega issues !  Basically a Sky Advisor more or less told me that the new Sky max hubs aren't compatible with Sky Q mini box 🤔

Yeah the minis need to connect direct to the Q.

welcome to how it works for every non-Sky-BB customer

Re: Broadband not connecting to sky Q box

After many months of flawless use, my Sky Q box keeps randomly disconnecting from the (3rd party) wifi. I may have found a solution but don't yet know if it will work in the long term.

Long stroy short, it involves a wifi range extender and a short ethernet cable.

Being a man of a certain age (!) I've lots of computer related clutter that, well, might come in useful some day. So I tried the extender (15 yrs old?) and a truely prehistoric ethernet cable plugged into it and voila! it worked. Whether it will last, work with mini boxes (which I don't have) or have suitable speeds for those who stream UHD is unknown, but after plugging it it the SkyQ box simply connected. No reboot or faffing with settings necessary. Or expensive powerline kits that don't work (apparently) with extension leads. And easier than routing a cable between the router and box.

Re: Broadband not connecting to sky Q box

As long as it is Cat 5, it should work ok.

Re: Broadband not connecting to sky Q box

Cat 5 ethernet cable has been about forever.

Nice

powerlines aren't expensive though. Wifi 7 mesh networks are expensive 😁

Re: Broadband not connecting to sky Q box

Thank you.

A powerline adapter is more expensive than something I already have in the cupboard 😉

Typically, the Q box connected to the wifi today after changing exactly nothing. Oh the joys of intermittent issues!

Re: Broadband not connecting to sky Q box

This issue has started for me today , connecting to the hot-spot allowed me to down epg but this isn't ideal.

Nothing has resolved the issue .

Has anyone found a solution?

Re: Broadband not connecting to sky Q box

Does anyone have the issue that Sky keeps disconnecting from their broadband? It happens everyday and I have to either do a network reset OR switch the Sky box off from the mains to make it work again without that. Have no idea why it keeps happening but it's not a broadband problem.

Re: Broadband not connecting to sky Q box

For me personally it seems to be an issue with SkyQ (Min box) not compatible with the Sky max router I had installed last year & therefore I'm having to 'reset' almost every day ! I will probably be cancelling my contract as it's not fit for purpose .........although I expect Sky will try to say I'm within contract & therefore cannot cancel ! I'm happy to contest that

A Q booster can help with this scenario. It looks to the Q and mini like an old Sky router.

Re: Broadband not connecting to sky Q box

Hi Chodley I'm back. Guess what? It's started again. All this rubbish about using Ethernet to cure the problem. As you know I've wired my entire house with a 5e solution. Everything fine for a couple of years then.off it goes again. Every 20-30 mins my mini loses connnection as I am losing the will to live with it. We both know it's the boxes and the way they communicate. This will never be resolved until they recall all the boxes and replace them with o solution that works. End of!!! Hope you're ok - it's been a while l.

Hi @Birchy23 Wifi still definitely disabled on them?

Mine has been stable for ~5 years with a combination of powerlines and wifi mesh node connections and wifi on all the boxes disabled.
