Why does she need a subscription TV service?

Surely you would just plug an aerial or satellite feed straight into the back of the TV?

The Q box needs to be connected to broadband for updates and to populate content across the UI, even if no apps are used.

@jay755

For 'terrestrial' channels (presumably the Public Service Broadcasters) a Freesat box would seem more appropriate, and has no monthly subscription cost.

Sky can install a main Q box at an address without broadband, but are understandably reluctant to do so because they don't want the hassle of handling associated support calls when subscribers discover that large chunks of functionality highlighted in the user interface aren't actually available.
