BBC On Demand - Is there a way to hide sign language?

I've noticed recently that when watching BBC shows via Sky's catchup service the second and subsequent episodes include the sign language and have a reduced picture size. It would appear however that watching them through iPlayer avoids this issue.

An example of this:

A Good Girl's Guide to Murder.

No signing on the first episode but signing after that.

It's more convenient to use Sky's Catchup service than to launch iPlayer so does anyone know if this is a fault with the service or if there is a way to tell Sky Catchup that I want to watch the unsigned version?

Hi @AndrueCope   My apologises, the signing doesn't start until you are well into the episode. All you can do is contact viewer relations by emailing viewerR@sky.uk . Perhaps the BBC wants you to use the iPlayer.

Hi @AndrueCope   That is very strange, I just searched for "A Good Girl's Guide to Murder" and I cannot find any with signing. Every episode is normal in HD.

Have you actually watched them though? As I stated in my post the first episode is fine. The second episode is signed. I think I had the same issue with The Turkish Detective. I watched the first three or four then they became signed and I gave up.

I think the problem is that it's two different recordings - one with and one without. It's latter that seems to end up being the stream used on Sky Catchup.

Having checked I agree, episode 2 onwards have sign language but are not labelled as such. This is a frequent problem with BBC catch-up content. Often the unsigned versions are available if you dig deep through the menus but it doesn't seem to be in this case.

Hiya, not sure if you got a resolution to the problem. I found the same sign language from episode 2 onwards and deleted them all. I've just gone in on i Player and the sign langauage has gone, so this appears to be the answer. Many thanks for setting the question, saved me a job!

I'm having the same issue. Downloaded S14 E1 of Not going out because we didn't realise the new series had started. Then the sign language person appears. Started watching "A good girl's guide to murder",  as soon as you get to the talking bit, sign language person appears again. It's really annoying. There is no obvious option on the download to be able to choose sign language or not.

Use iPlayer instead...

I am just another Sky customer and my views are my own even if you don't like the answers

Yeah, that's what I've been doing. It's actually as the iPlayer is in UHD, where as sky is just HD.

@Cranage43

There are usually multiple versions available so the trick is to find the one without the sign langauge so if you do a search try the BBC One or BBC One Wales versions and not the BBC TWO one.
