Are calls from 0800 number a scam?

I received a call from an 0800 number try to sell me insurance on my sky q box by offering 3 months free. Sounded like a scam but not something I wanted anyway . Was this a genuine call? I contacted fraud and they couldn't find Sky had called me. Has anyone else had this please?

Sky do make calls from 0800 numbers so it likely was a genuine call.

This sounds like it was for Sky Protect which is an insurance provided by Domestic & General. It's really not necessary for Sky Q as Sky will replace faulty Q boxes free of charge anyway. The only benefit of Sky Protect is that you may get a quicker engineer appointment for issues which require attendance, but even this can't be guaranteed any more with the ever diminishing numbers of satellite engineers.

@hope316

It could be Domestic and General Insurance trading as Sky Protect who do cover Sky Q equipment, mobiles tablets etc. Unfortunately their staff do sometimes have an annoying tendency to say they're from Sky which technically they're not.

Hi @hope316   I had the same call yesterday. Not a scam but Sky trying to sell Sky Protect. It starts off with a load of waffle of how to use Sky Q and checking that you are enjoying your Sky Q and Apps experience. Followed by the sale of Sky Protect, 3 months free then £9.99 a month. I had to say not interested several times. Nice chap, I enjoyed wasting his time.
