Re: Alternative to sky q

Not exactly an alternative but I am thinking of leaving SKY since my Firestick enables me to download loads of free Apps and I already get for free Disney (through my bank), I get Prime for free and pay £7 a month for Netflix. I am now looking at ways of being able to record programmes/films shown on the Apps.

You can't.  Apps are 'streaming' and you are prevented from recording (for obvious reasons).

You can only record broadcasts.  FreeSat 4K boxes allow this.

There are ways that you can record Apps, look on You Tube. Basically what is fed into the TV from the Firestick can also be fed into a computer/recorder.

Technically, yes.  But you won't find one.

Disney & NetFlix are quite rightly protective of their material.  Taking a digital copy would be against their T&C's for starters.  Any HDMI output would be HDCP protected and cannot be recorded.

Re: Alternative to sky q

My bank is Lloyds which gives me an annual Freebie, I selected the Disney+ subscription.  The Prime TV and Film is included with our Prime Membership which costs us £8.99 per month, which we pay in order to get next day deliveries and would continue to pay even if TV and Film was not included, so it could be argued that it isn't exactly free! Much better than the £95 I am currently paying for SKY.

Ok, no legal method.  For obvious reasons discussion around (illegally) circumventing copy protection will not be tolerated here...

@Anonymous

Please may I advise that it helps if you can either quote the post you are replying to and/or tag the user.

To quote you should see a double quote icon in the options above the post edit box

To quote a user type @ and then the first few letters  (or more) of the poster which should bring up a list  to select

This is particularly relevant when the post you are replying to is not the one above yours

Absolutely (see FreeSat 4K boxes and similar) but you can't (easily nor legally) on Disney+, NetFlix etc.

Arguably you have no need to 'record' if you have a subscription as you just stream 'on demand'.  If you cancel your subscription then you do not have a licence for the material.

Certainly, because those channels are free to air.  What you don't have a right to do is retain content accessed through a subscription service for viewing once that subscription has ended, which means it has to be distributed through a Digital Rights Management system, typically embedded in the platform app, which is separate and in addition to HDCP.
