2TB box on the way out?
My Sky Q setup is 8 years old.
In the past few months we've noticed the wifi in the house has been getting worse (3xmini + SkyBB, connected by ethernet)
Yesterday and today each of the mini boxes, every few minutes or so, cuts to this screen
for about 10 seconds, then goes back to the TV.
It is doing the same weird things with records and on demand, playing for a short time then the screen goes black and sometimes it gives a "channel unabvailable" message.
I've rebooted the router, each of the sky boxes in sequence but it prevails. No settings have changed. All boxes have the latest software.
I'm loathe to call sky only to be led through these hoops all over again. How do I go about getting an engineer, as a long term customer, to come and have a look and diagnose a fault before I end up deleting everything?
Or if anyone recognises the symptoms that would be awesome.
Thanks
Mike

Re: 2TB box on the way out?
Just to add, disconnecting Ethernet and running a fresh WPS connection makes no difference.

Realistically, they won't do anything other than swap out the main Q box, at which point you lose the recordings anyway: such things aren't designed to be field repairable.

Re: 2TB box on the way out?
Thank you.
Will they keep me in the phone for ages as I go through a million different steps? Or will they trust I've done it all already and swap out the box?

Re: 2TB box on the way out?
I suspect there's a diagnostic script to go through.

Alas that's true.
Many years ago I had the PSU 'blow up' inside the box - they insisted I turned the box on to run some diagnostic checks. It was as dead as door nail but would not budge - that is until I asked to speak to cancellations...

Re: 2TB box on the way out?
Thanks guys, as I suspected. Not sure I have the patience for that.
Last question then, ... do we still have the opportunity to pay to upgrade to a HDR box if we don't have one? I can't seem to find a link...

You can still pay extra for the HDR box, or you may end up just being sent one. Boxes are supposed to be like for like replacements but often aren't. I got a non-HDR box swapped to a v3 HDR box without paying any extra when I requested a swap due to a noisy hard drive. Sky's hardware stock control isn't the greatest so it can be pot luck. Even those who order an HDR box are sometimes sent the wrong type.
Q is getting long in the tooth now and there may be less boxes around so you may or may not get lucky.

Yes, but that's likely to be the 1TB UHD/HDR box from 2019 rather than a 2017 or 2018 2TB.
