2160p 10 bit - supported? 4K LG G4.
Hi guys,
I was looking at my box settings recently and I notice that I was only set to 1080i... Pretty sure I'd set this to 2160p previously, but hey ho. Anyway, I can't appear to set the res to 2160p 10 bit, despite it being supported. Best I get is 8.
Thoughts? I'm using very decent 8K HDMI cables to my devices.
Thanks.

hi @slipd
Check the settings in your TV's menu for the HDMI you are using, I can't remember the setting specifically for LG but look for options like Deep color, Enhanced (I think that is Sony) - although I think most modern TVs now default to these it is worth checking

Just looked at my HDMI cable specs: 8 and 12 bit are supported. No mention of 10. Could it be that possibly?

Any cable which supports 12bit (which would have to be HDMI 2.2) will also support 10 bit.
BT Halo 3+ Ultrafast FTTP (500Mbs), BT Smart Hub 2

@slipd as @nigea99 stated you need to find the deep color setting on your TV and activate it then you should be able to use 10bit

Think I've sorted it... it applies anyway 😂
It was just a colour tweak in settings.
Thanks everyone.

Re: 2160p 10 bit - supported? 4K LG G4.
Update: I hadn't thought about this issue for ages but then, whilst watching the football (ITV HD) at the weekend, I thought to myself - "this picture seems a bit grainy?"
Upon looking in my Sky box settings, it appears that the resolution had set back to 1080i on its own! I upped it back to 2160p and it applied fine and I watched the rest of the match in a much better res. However, when I switch off and back on again, the box seems to struggle and ultimately revert back to the lowest setting.
What do we reckon, try a different cable maybe?
Thanks.

Confirmed by a Sky affiliated engineer - my Sky Q box, 2TB first-gen (2016/17), is not capable of 10 bit 4K... although the software says yes, the hardware says no apparently 🙂

The first gen 2TB boxes are capable of 10 bit UHD assuming the TV is (I used it when I had one) but they are not HDR capable

Oh... interesting. My guy is Sky installer and said he'd had the issue with installs in the past, going back years. He even recalled seeing the problem with LG OLEDs specifically.
My Dad's LG OLED / Sky Q (2023) combo is fine with 4K in 10 bit - straight out of the box. No setting tweaks.

It's a tough one then, I'm not sure what else I can try? @MightyQuinn, we're you using LG? Any special settings or anything?

Re: 2160p 10 bit - supported? 4K LG G4.
Hi @slipd Top of the range Sony, paid my £50 to swap to a 32B2xx box when HDR was introduced. Although I had my 32B0xx box set to 10 bit, there is no advantage as the box is not HDR compatible. So 8 bit is fine with arguably the best choice and picture. No idea if the 32B0xx 10 bit now carries the HDR coding, if it does then you will now get a dark picture.
