Try resetting the remote to infrared mode by pressing and holding 7 & 9 on the remote until it's LED flashes 4 times.

Then make sure that you are pointing the remote at the Q box and press 1 & 3 together until the led flashes and follow onscreen instructions to re- pair.

Have done this several times but no joy. I've removed the batteries from the remote and waiting 30 minutes to remove any residual memory from the remote assuming there is one!? 
Any other ideas?

@Richard+Benns Have you tried rebooting your  Q box ie
putting your box into Standby then switching it off at the wall for 30 seconds
switch it back on then follow the on screen instructions

then try re-pairing your remote

Yes I've tried this twice including pressing the home button after the on screen notifications when the screen goes blank but s no luck! Can't even adjust the volume. I've got two sky plus remotes one is new so don't know what the answer is? Maybe my box is faulty?

Unlikely that they are both faulty @Richard+Benns 

Try rebooting the main Q box again.

To reboot press Standby on your Sky Q remote (if the box responds to the remote), and then switch off and unplug at the mains.
Wait at least 30 secs and then Plug back in and switch your Sky Q box back on at the mains.
Wait for the on screen instructions to disappear and the front led to turn Amber. Then wait for 30 secs before you press Home on your Sky Q remote or if this is not working press the standby button on the front of the Q box (Amber led)

note: some features may take up to 5 minutes to return.

If you had to press the standby button on the Q box to switch it on,    Reset both remotes by pressing and holding 7 & 9 together on the remote until itsvLED flashes 4 times.

Make sure that you do this on both your remotes.

Both remotes will then be in infrared mode and will work the Q box without pairing.    Make sure that you point the remote at the Q box when you try them as they will need direct line of sight.

If the remotes both control the Q box choose one and make sure the Q box is on.
Then make sure that you are pointing the remote at the Q box and press 1 & 3 together until the led flashes and follow onscreen instructions to re- pair.

Hi! We've got the same problem, some of our Sky Q  remote control buttons don't work, ie, on/off, (standby works) volume & mute mainly. We have followed these instructions, even bought new remote, still not working. Any ideas please?
