Where should I put my Sky Smart Home devices?

Getting the most out of Sky Smart Home starts with placing your devices in the right spots. Whether it’s seeing who’s at the door, spotting leaks early, or detecting movement around your home, correct placement helps everything work smoothly.
This guide explains where each Sky Smart Home device works best — and why it matters.

Video Doorbell and Chime

Your Video Doorbell lets you see and speak to visitors from your phone, while the Chime helps keep everything connected.

Where to place them
Smart Video Doorbell
  • Install it outside your front door
  • Position it around 1.2–1.5 metres from the ground

Keeping these two devices close together helps maintain a strong signal.

Check your signal strength
Once everything’s plugged in, it’s worth running a quick signal test:
  1. Open the Sky Smart Home app
  2. Go to Settings
  3. Select Devices under Device Settings
  4. Tap Smart Doorbell
  5. Choose Signal under Technical information
  6. Tap Run test
You’re aiming for a Good signal (three bars or more).
If the signal is weak, try moving the Chime closer or reducing obstacles between the devices.

Choosing the right doorbell spot
Before fixing your doorbell in place:
  • Mount it on a flat surface using the supplied back plate
  • Check the live view in the Sky Smart Home app
  • Make sure you’re happy with:
    • What’s in frame
    • Motion detection coverage
Good to know
  • Keep the Video Doorbell and Chime within 8 metres of each other
  • Avoid thick walls or doors blocking the signal
  • Wedges are included if your wall isn’t flat or you need to adjust the angle

Indoor Camera

The Indoor Camera helps you keep an eye — and an ear — on your home, whether you’re in or out.

Where to place it
  • On a shelf or wall with a clear view of the room
  • Somewhere discreet that still covers key areas
Tips for the best setup
  • Position it so you can see most of the room
  • Make sure it’s:
    • Connected to main power
    • Within range of your Wi‑Fi and any sensors you’re using
If you use Auto arm, your camera will automatically switch on when you leave home.

Leak Sensor

Leak Sensors help detect unwanted water — even leaks you can’t see.

Best locations include:
  • Next to washing machines or dishwashers
  • Behind kitchen kickboards near pipes or sinks
  • Near bath panels
  • Under boilers or hot water tanks
Good to know
Leak Sensors can also monitor temperature and humidity, giving you extra insight into your home environment.
