Sky Protect security equipment NOT FIT FOR PURPOSE

This Sky Protect security package is NOT FIT FOR PURPOSE and no wonder its been given away free (well with a higher premium). I moved from RING to Sky Protect as the package sounded very good but in reality it is a pile of (removed) Rubbish! 1st day of installing I had to send a complaint in as the Chime has to be plugged into the BroadBand hub which is not an issue in its self but the Chime also has to be within a short distance from the Doorbell (so Chime is at the front door near the doorbell-not very convenient if wanting to use in a large house as I can not hear the doorbell unless I have my phone with me BUT even then the delay is so long that by the time I answer the door, there is NO ONE there (rang door bell 2minutes before I get notified of someone at door). So the 1st issue being the signal strength of the chime and it isn't wireless so has to be plugged into Hub via ethernet (not user friendly at all). 2nd issue is that the Doorbell (along with the extremely long delay from ringing the doorbell to notification to phone) can NOT be hard wired so I am having to spend a whole day charging the doorbell for 1 to 2 days use before charing again! And what response did I get when I complained to Sky Protect team about these issues-Return it if you are not happy! Err NO, fix the issues that the customers are not happy with!

So not only do I have a security system that is NOT FIT FOR PURPOSE but I now have to reinstall the RING Doorbell and have 2 security systems running because I need the cheaper contents insurance of Sky Protect and the indoor camera is absolutely fine (because it is hard wired and has a Bridge adaptor to use along with the sensors).

I am now in a pickle as to what to do next and am not happy that I can only use Half if the security system as I now can not move to another provider? NOT A HAPPY BUNNY:(

Are you outside the 31 day 'cooling off' period?

Personally I think I'd be tempted to look carefully at the wording of the policy document to see if it's a requirement of the cover to have the Sky-supplied 'security system' (note it's actually described as a 'smart tech bundle') in place at all.

Re: Sky Protect security equipment NOT FIT FOR PURPOSE

Why didn't you just read more about the whole product/package as it explains everything that you're not happy with. Nobody else's fault but your own unfortunately.

The post from @Princess9 dates from two months ago when the Smart Protect product was extremely new.

I'd also add that a review of the documentation indicates use of all or indeed any of the 'Tech Bundle' is absolutely not required for the insurance cover itself to be valid.

Re: Sky Protect security equipment NOT FIT FOR PURPOSE

Hi

like most well advertised products, I was caught by the prospect of a cheaper way to protect my home and family instead of paying a premium prescription for just a video doorbell without insurance ie R I N G so therefore never read the policy docs also I am registered Blind and with like most products or services I purchase I tend to go with well named or well reviewed products or services

2 months in and whilst I may of been premature and harsh (NFFP) in my concerns and woes with regards to the charge that the doorbell holds (4 hour charge for 4 days use now) I still stick by my disappointment with the D       e        l        a       y  from the doorbell to my devices (android longer delay than Apple but still both delayed notifications) and the fact that it is hardwired! HOWEVER, for the price, these concerns and woes are worth putting up with. For now 🙂

Re: Sky Protect security equipment NOT FIT FOR PURPOSE

Got all my equipment a couple of weeks back and the external camera is absolutely not fit for purpose.!

Doesn't ring in the house unless pressed quite firmly and why would a visitor be expected to know that?

No live feed on my phone, just a black screen.

I cannot believe sky are still showing the adverts on TV knowing that there are so many issues and disgruntled users.

Always rated Sky and it's equipment but this has severly dented that trust.

Luckily for them, that so far, they still have good people working for them.

How have you gone on about the system as I also find it an absolute pile of rubbish it says that someone is at door yet it won't show me anything, I personally think sky are conning people here

Re: Sky Protect security equipment NOT FIT FOR PURPOSE

I would quite happily send the system back to sky

Re: Sky Protect security equipment NOT FIT FOR PURPOSE

Still having issues 😞

Same here with the Doorbell going off BUT no one there and NO video to play back? If someone does actually ring the doorbell, my phone notifies me about 30mins to an hour AFTER the bell has been pressed (android) but there isnt as much of a delay (still a delay) with ios. Tamper detection goes off randomly and I haven't been able to use my indoor camera since purchase as it keeps getting the same fault, I have replaced the indoor camera twice now.  I am doubting whether I will renew when the contract is up and go back to RING-which is way more expensive BUT I never had an issue with RING apart from the price! Time has told and me no happy 😞

@Berlin1702

Presumably you'd need to negotiate a move to the version of the Zurich insurance product which does not include the 'Smart Tech Bundle' and consequently has lower premiums.  The hardware and associated service itself apparently isn't actually either a purchase or a subscription, which rather complicates consumer rights.

Send an email to contactATskyprotectDOTcom and let them know the issues you are having. 1 thing I will say about the skyprotect is the contact is good. Usually replies immediately, Usually!!! Good luck. I'll be persevering until sometime next year!

Re: Sky Protect security equipment NOT FIT FOR PURPOSE

Yep 100% correct check your policy too. Mine is completely different policy to what I did online. And yes just like the rest of the world I trust things are right.

Camera is the only thing that works. No need for three water sensors. The batteries on the door sensors last about a week the doorbell you can't even talk to the person. If you can ever get a wifi signal good enough to use it.

@Doddsie to be able to talk using the app then you need to give permission for the app to use your microphone

Re: Sky Protect security equipment NOT FIT FOR PURPOSE

Hi. Did you get a solution?

I just got Sky Protect pack today and saw the need to connect Chime by Ethernet cable.  As you said   NOT practicable! My router is in an upstairs bedroom.

I called Sky Protect Tech support and , apart ftom being quite rude and condescending, they said the solution is a TP-link booster with Ethernet port and they will send me an Amazon voucher to buy one.
