One of the bugbears with the Sky Protect Chime is that it needs to be within 10 metres of your doorbell with no real obstructions in order to get a decent signal. "No problem," I hear you say, "I'll just get the router installed close to the front door."
Good idea. But what about those of us who bought into Sky Protect AFTER the installation of our fibre connection?
There IS a solution and you'll thank me for this.
If you have the Sky Max router (white one)...
Buy / beg / borrow a Sky Extender Pod (Sky will provide up to three of these if you have genuine connectivity issues within your home but they are also available to purchase). On the bottom of the pod are two ethernet ports. Plug the pod into a mains socket somewhere near your front door, plug the chime into one of the ethernet ports (the right one seemed to work better for us for some reason) and give it a few minutes to connect. Once the blue light on the chime goes solid, you're all set.
You may just have to switch the doorbell unit off and on again and / or re-sync it to complete the process.
Et voila! You now have a really good signal strength to and from your doorbell and there's no need to have your router moved or run an ugly cable the length of your home.
You're welcome!

Perhaps worth noting that pods aren't supposed to be on sale anywhere, and shouldn't function without the WiFi Max subscription supplement.
